Okay, here’s my take: if Dean had been alive to witness the birth/upbringing of Sam’s kid, he would’ve freaking adored him. He’s 1) proof that Sam loves him (I mean, he named his kid after him), 2) family, and 3) a kid. Dean loves all three of those things very, very much. And you know Dean would’ve had so much fun getting to be the “bad influence” in a way he never could with Sam or Ben (Sam because he was the only real influence, and Ben because they weren’t quite close enough / had enough time for that). Dean would’ve, like, given the kid his first beer at fourteen and bought the kid a motorcycle for his eighteenth.

But. Dean was not there for Dean Jr’s childhood. Instead, he’ll get to meet Dean Jr. years later when the kid, now presumably an old guy, shows up in Sam’s heaven. This is after hearing Sam talk about him for decades. I think there’ll be a bit of a weird dynamic there--the kid will have only heard about Sam’s idealized version of his brother, and will probably be a little thrown by the full force of Dean. Whereas I imagine Dean will be jealous of this other full-grown man getting so much of Sam’s attention/love. Plus, he’s got Dean’s name, which might be a little weird in this situation.
