"Snobbish Society's Schoolmaster". Caricature of Ward McAllister as an ass telling Uncle Sam he must imitate "an English snob of the 19th century" or he "will nevah be a gentleman". Published in Judge, November 8, 1890.
McAllister famously claimed that there were only 400 people who mattered in New York City ("If you go outside that number", he warned, "you strike people who are either not at ease in a ballroom or else make other people not at ease."). The number was popularly supposed to be the capacity of Caroline Schermerhorn Astor's ballroom. Lavish parties were held at the Astor mansion.
The Four Million, the title of a book by O. Henry, was a reaction to this phrase, expressing O. Henry's opinion that every human being in New York was worthy of notice.

They were not nominated for ANYTHING; like Broadway is so snobish that they prefer to skip an award that nominate a funky cheap show for teens

I don't know how many people here are members of Meetup groups or even run Meetup groups, but I run three of them, and my #1 policy with any group - no matter the theme - is to be welcoming to ANYBODY regardless of skin color, gender identity, romantic/sexual orientation, religion or anything like that. I just left one tonight because the group leader was being a snob. He claimed that something came up and ended up removing me and a friend of mine from attending because he had an "announcement" and needed his "regular members" to be present. I honestly don't know what he was thinking, but to me, that's no way to run a Meetup group.
I hate ppl who snobby abt what bar ur going to like ok hun u work an hourly wage job, u dont have a salary, youve never made a salary, and/or youve been a couch crasher who didnt pay rent at some point in ur life? No? U dont have the right to be a bar snob? No salary? Svck d.ck. We’re going to the dive bars pu$$y. Dont even argue with me like “but im allowed to have standards” i aint buying u drinks pu$$y.
