I just had a thought about SNO, like when does it take place, like we do have some hard set things that happen historically that would affect SNO. Also some things that are confirmed in the story.
For example we have:
• Columbus sailing to the western hemisphere and committing atrocities, and paved the way for the exploitation and mistreatment of the indigenous peoples in the western hemisphere. Also the Columbian exchange. This is canon Sal hate Columbus as we all should.
• The protestant reformation, and the Palpal bulls (announcements/degree from the Catholic Church specifically the pope). There's Bible's in non Latin languages.
• The scientific revolution, heliocentrism especially.
• Shakespeare is an actual person and has a grown son in SNO. Jakey's character, Julian.
• The African slave trade. Lavendula should we be concerned for you?
Columbus:
So timeline wise we know that Columbus happened begining 1492, and was governor of the Indies (1492-1499) and died in 1506 in Spain. It's kinda implied in SNO that he's a vampire by Salvador's character introduction on twitter.
Also some Taíno people were taken to Europe so they could be translators, also atrocities were committed against the Taíno people and many other indigenous peoples when their lands were colonized. There was originally estimated to be around a million Taíno people but 90% were killed off/ died due to Columbus and his men.
Protestant reformation:
The protestant reformation began with Luther's 95 theses, written in 1517. This is important because Protestants wanted Catholic reform and one thing that wanted was Bible's in their region's language instead of Latin so that the common people could read the Bible.
The peace of Augsburg was signed 1555 which allowed for the rulers of each German state (there were many of them) to decided which denomination of Christianity their state follows.
In 1534 the Church of England began and really it's just Catholicism but separated from the pope.
Palpal Bulls:
The Palpal bulls were a set of decrees from the church about the treatment of areas that Europeans "found" and came across. First in 1453 with Dum Divers as allowing for the enslavement of indigenous peoples on the land "discovered" by Catholic counties, and another in 1493 Inter Caetera which urged for the conversion of indigenous peoples and said that if you "find" the land you outright own it.
Here's a wiki article on the Doctrine of Discovery
Sublimus Deus is the Palpal bull that prevented the enslavement of Catholics or any indigenous person that converted to Catholicism it was issued in 1537.
The Scientific revolution:
Let's begin the scientific revolution with the history of heliocentrism. Copernicus published his "On the Revolutions of Heavenly Spheres" on 1543 the year of his death. This inspired Tycho Brahe who studied the heavens for decades while he wasn't able to finish his work before his death he hired someone to do calculations for him and that was Kepler who published his laws on planetary motion from 1608 to 1621 in which he does suggest a forced holds the celestial objects in place (gravity, not proven just yet but it is what he is suggesting). In 1617-1621 he made his own heliocentric model. Galileo made the modern telescope in 1609 and continued afterward with many observations of celestial objects, including the sun (don't stare at the sun kids Galileo went blind), he also did studies on motion. Gravity was proved by Sir Issac Newton in his work "Principa" published in 1687 where he lays out his three laws of motion.
Shakespeare:
Shakespeare was said to be alive from 1564-1616. And was active as a poet and playwright from 1585-1613. He had three children not in SNO, two daughters and a son that died in childhood. Hamlet- baptized 1585, died at 11 yrs old. Susanna born 1583 and Judith baptized 1583. Shakespeare married in 1582 to his wife. This gives us a decent timeframe for Julius, but due to story spoilers we don't exactly know how old he supposedly is, but he is at least 23.
African Slave trade:
That began in the 1300's but transatlantic slave trade began in 1526 with the Portuguese to Brazil. It should be noted that the slave trade was mostly sending the enslaved people to colonies rather than to the European countries. It is only in 1807 that Britain bans the transatlantic slave trade for any of it's colonies. In short transatlantic slave trade was horrible and was in effect for a long time. And in 1833-1834 England abolished slavery in most of its colonies.
That means that:
So timeline wise it is at least 1606. Meaning that Sublimus Deus is in effect. The protestant reformation has occured, so has the Augsburg Peace and the separation of the Anglican church. We have Copernicus's suggestions of heliocentrism at least depending on how many more years have passed from 1606, it could be possible for them to have telescopes if it's passed 1609. It is unlikely that they know about gravity just yet though. Also that the slave trade is still in effect for English colonies.
Which also means that Sal's been in Europe for over a century. And also that the western hemisphere wasn't known by characters from season 2 that were stuck in the wild hunt. So the first two seasons were likely taking place in the early 1400's if we ignore the timeline fuckery.
It should also be safe to assume that it is in Europe although where in Europe I'm not too sure, the British isles feels like a safe assumption due to how many red heads are in SNO and due to Shakespeare.
Which again makes me wonder why Sal is in England, Sal why did you cross the English channel. Also from my research it turns out initial sightings of Chupacabra are from Puerto Rico, I initially thought it was just a mainland cryptid. But they're from the 1990's...
Sal I love your character but you confuse me.
Also why are all the Dracula's in England, your from eastern Europe, if we go off of historical accuracy they're from Wallachian royalty, specifically Vlad Tepes/Vald Dracula son of Vlad Dracul, that makes them from the 1400's. Wait actually they might have left due to the Ottoman Empire taking over. Surprisingly since he's been made a vampire in media, Vlad the impaler was actually Roman Catholic and considered a Christian hero in Romanian due to his opposition of the Ottomans.
Don’t ask me which SNO, I forgot. It’s the one with Jackson the vampire appearing. Anyways, very angsty and tragic. Xylo finds and bonds with a pet cat that turns out to be a monster he has to kill. I liked the concept for this honestly.
Honestly, remembering Lucas' panic from when he first came to earth, sometimes makes him feel less like an Angel who lost his memories and more like a human who just got Isekai'd into the world of Supernatural creatures in the body of an Angel. Cause he understood what some supernatural creatures were but was shocked that they were real.
Still, turns out Lucas was just an Angel from Heaven who willingly jumped after stealing a thing. Though it would have been a funny plot twist if he wasn't.
