The Liquidmantis fandom is sleeping on these two scenes in the novel, like this is some soulmate shit. The way Mantis goes from "this world exists to be destroyed by me" as his big life altering revelation in the first chapter to "this world exists to be destroyed by us" as soon as he meets Eli.

This goes beyond romance. However you view their relationship—friends, queerplatonic partners (my pick hehe)—they are undeniably soulbonded. They understand each other immediately without even so much as exchanging names on a level no one else has ever understood either of them before.

Oh y'know just...the kid Eli tries to beat up in that cutscene where he gets CQC'd by Ocelot

I did not plan this, Etepe fell in love as soon as I introduced them. I even tried to prevent it because Eli had a crush on someone else, but he asked me 3 separate times in one hour if he actually loved Etepe instead, and I eventually just gave up and said "sure".

They're married now.

I've decided their ship name is "Eltepe".
