early in my pregnancy, a symbol that often came to us was a snail. this time last year we were waiting for the boy to make his appearance. he was late — very late — and we started to regret putting little snail decorations around our home in anticipation for him. a snail’s pace was much too slow.

he did arrive, and the year since has moved quickly. I haven’t wanted it to, but it has.

this weekend I sat out in the field and tied together bundles of wildflowers for his first birthday celebration. on one piece of grass I chose to wind with, a snail sat still as a stone. reminding me to be slow down and maybe even stop sometimes.

Gail is literally laying eggs as I type this. I'm so happy right now. I picked up the food tub to feed them and found all three sitting under there while Gail lays eggs.
