Day 23: 825 Words
Location: Maui Airport Destination: Honolulu (stopover on Molokai) Via: Mokulele Airlines
I love flying this airline! They have a teeny manini terminal adjacent to the main terminal. They have teeny manini planes that fly closer to the land and the water and they don't care if you use your phone or not. There is no security. They have parking right out in front. I shouldn't be saying all this, perhaps. But even still, they only carry about 10 passengers. So, even if we all go down, not that big of a loss.
:-)
I first flew them years ago, back when there was only one pilot. Now, "Two pilots!" is one of their main promotional messages. My first flight was from Maui to Lanai. There was only one pilot. And there was only one passenger — moi. It was incredibly cool and a little, "Umm, anything you want to show me before we take off, you know, just in case?"
I miss those days of travel. Safety is in many instances waaaaay over-rated in my opinion. Sure, set up the basic standards, know how to make the most of a situation to address the major complications. But trying to child-proof the entire world is not my preference.
Just as I like having diverse friends, living in diverse communities, traveling off the beaten path (even when using clichés), so I like to dance a little with mild forms of danger. I am basically a scaredy cat kind of person in many ways, brainwashed by deep layers of protocol in my DNA and not wanting to upset people or go to jail, and stuff like that. But as I get older and more confident with a deeper well of self-acceptance, well, I like having experiences that are colorful and flavorful.
I like being closer to everyday normal people. Closer to everyday life. Sure, I like air conditioning too but I don't need it. I mean, right now, here, it's hot. As in H. O. T. hot. But I much prefer this ease of use and the more intimate flying experience to the pseudo-corporate mess that is the main airport. I mean, if you could fly without having to deal with TSA, would you? For the same or lower price as the commercial carrier? With a 25 yard walk from the parking lot to the check in counter? And a just slightly longer walk from the plane to the curb on the other end, at the large Honolulu International Airport? No boarding pass – they just ask your weight and check you off the list when you board. And I can keep water in my bottle.
Yeah, for me, no brainer!
My interview yesterday with the Thrive Arts mastermind group went fine – I'm accepted in to the group. I'm looking forward to having the support of other women artists. I'm feeling that a career or avocation as a conceptual artist is the best fit for me now. And I'm so excited about it! Never have I gone into something so ignorant and yet so enthusiastic with so many ideas! It's a fun experience for me.
I must add, that never before have I bee so trusting in the universe, too. I feel at home her sin this body, in this world, and neuroses notwithstanding, quite free to do what I want when I want, Or not. I finally get it. None of this matters! none of it. It's just play time. And baby, I am game-ready!
Perhaps I should flag this as I'm feeling especially positive, liberated, open-minded, curious, eager today. I like the feeling.
I think in times like this, flag it so you can read it again later the things ain't feeling so cool.\
But I generally don't do that. I don't go back through things for reminders of these feelings. I just stay in the now and figure it out.
I wonder if that's part of the challenge I have for writing something long form. The thought of sorting through all those words I've already written seems daunting. In this moment, it seems the ideal method for me might be to go on a retreat. Clear the decks as completely as possible. Then right like fuck until I'm done with something.
I will admit, that sounds very appealing.
Can I do it without going somewhere else? That's a challenge - to have this "write luck fuck" mindset without being distracted by other things on my wish list.
Worth entertaining, though, once we move back to Santa Fe. We will have spaces available be separate ourselves. We also have the lure of the RV.
I wonder what I could get done in a month? Seems very doable! After all, I write 120 pages while on a 10-day vacation to Bali - and I did plenty of sight-seeing too. I WAS by myself - that is the secret sauce I think.
To be continued.
