Give me household magic, give me spells crafted by grandmothers when they were learning how to live, passed down not from teaching but in that osmosis of children observing their mother everyday, give me simple charms made in the evenings and left on neighbours doors to keep gardens free of bugs and eaves from leaking, give me potions for cleaning or boiling or preserving, pantry potions every house has above the kitchen sink, give me words of power to call the cows down from the pastures and chase away foxes from the chickens and calm the horses when they frighten, give me household magic, small magic, family magic, it's not textbook, it's rough technique but it works and that's what matters

“Violet Sorrengail,” she whispers, moving closer. “Are you wearing Riorson’s flight jacket?” Liam’s head snaps in my direction, curse his stupidly good hearing. — Fourth Wing
I thought his signets were good vision (farsight) & ice?
I know the small magic enhances things (like Imogen being super fast)… is there any rhyme or reason as to what?
Is it possible for someone to be born veil-touched? If not biologically, would it possible for someone that was exposed to the veil while in the womb to develop traits of being veil-touched before being born? It's rather funny to imagine a small child with powers like Styx and Quin have, and it would certainly make for an interesting childhood
Great question! This is absolutely possible, although it isn’t always the outcome of someone being exposed to the Veil when carrying a child, and vice versa, as in Joey’s case, a Veiltouched person can produce a child without any S-cells present.
Mutations occur at any age: a VT child might be born with physical differences or they may become apparent as they grow older, or as with any VT, continue to worsen with time. In the case of advancing mutations, life expectancy for VT is historically drastically shorter.
Natural abilities tend not to become apparent until at least late childhood/early puberty. However, with both Small Magic and Veiltouched abilities, exceptions have been noted, especially when power is hereditary - so in theory, there could absolutely be a small VT child running around with telekinesis or lava fists.
This was my dive into the Witcher books after watching seasons one and two on Netflix. I read The Last Wish first based the recommendation of the article below. It's a fun read and a good introduction to Geralt and Dandelion (Jaskier).
Hmm, fine, I'll read the books.
Sword of Destiny Andrzej Sapkowski
The author uses Geralt, a man who is said to possess no emotion, to explore the human experience in a unique way. Enjoy the fantasy backdrop, but don't be surprised when you find yourself asking questions about morality, love, or the meaning of progress.
Go Tell the Bees that I am Gone Diana Gabaldon
The tenth book of the Outlander series. This installment continues the story of an ensemble of characters centered around the beloved Jamie and Claire. There are surprises and an ongoing war, but also the peace of the mountains, and everything is interwoven with love.
Small Magic - Terry Brooks
Fans of Brooks' various worlds will enjoy hearing more about and the characters that inhabit them. I thought the Landover stories were particularly charming, and I mean, dragon.
Star Wars Resistance Reborn - Rebecca Roanhorse
This book covers the time between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. It details how the few survivors of Crait work to rebuild the resistance. It also talks about the aftermath of Poe's mutiny. He has to find a way to recover his honor personally and in the eyes of the Resistance.
Dune - Frank Herbert
This book didn't hold my attention like I thought it would until close to the end. But it was interesting and epic in a different way than other sci-fi options. Also, Paul Atreides lowkey terrifies me.
I listened on Audible and the production quality was the best I have ever heard. There were multiple voice actors, sound effects, and a bit of music.
A Fractured Mind - Robert Oxnam
This is a fascinating personal account of Dissociative Identity Disorder. Oscar Isaac read it as he prepared to play Marc Spector.
Comics
Poe Dameron 001 - 021 (working to collect the rest!)

How did you do the hex at McDonald's btw? I feel like when I try to focus and do stuff like that it doesn't work, what's your method?
I’m sorry I don’t have a great explanation for you, but I’ll try my best! I usually only do any sort of magic when I already feel a bit ‘in the zone’ so to speak. Like I already am having a good mental health day, and I’m not worried about anything in particular, I just sort of feel more magical??? Which sounds a bit strange I’m sure, but it’s because on those days, I have more energy, which means I can also feel my energy (magically) more. That day I was already feeling rather ‘in-control’ of my thoughts/energy/spirit/mental health/myself (whatever your want to call it) anyway, so it felt easy to focus and direct energy for a quick hex like that.
For you, maybe try to think of those days that you just felt in-control of yourself, of your life, and your magic. Or days that just have that extra magical sparkle to them. Those days that just felt /good/ even though nothing in particular was going on. Or even the extra special days in your memories. That feeling you get of magic... that’s what i’m sort of aiming for or working toward.
But it also highly depends because there have been some /bad/ mental health days where I’ve done some big work.
Also.. I tend not to ‘try’ to feel magical/witchy... but! I do always pay attention to my intuition. And my intuition tends to lead me toward being able to keep magic in my daily life.
So my best advice, if it works for you, is to listen to those little nudges of directions to go. I actually have a post on TheRestlessWitch.com about intuition and the tarot.. it’s about using your intuition to read tarot, and at the same time using tarot to hone your intuitive skills, but it talks a bit about how to follow your intuition if you think that’s something that would be helpful :)
It’s how I find the energy to do little things like this anyway :)
