Authors note: I saw a reel(AGAIN) of two couples doing a challenge which the girl is a fast reader and is wondering how many books she can read in one sitting while her boyfriend reads a singular book(bc he’s a slow reader)… AND LOWK I WANTED to do this (Jason obviously being the faster reader). To all my fast readers out there… YOU CAN STILL ENJOY THIS(I envy you fast readers).
“It’s just so weird that you can finish a book all in one sitting.” You huffed out, lazily laying on the couch as you scroll on your phone mindlessly. Lately you seen your lovely, book-addict boyfriend, willingly spend most of his free time read 500+ pages all in one sitting, you find that to be absurd. “I mean— don’t you get bored? The books can’t be that good….”
Jason, who was sprawled out comfortably on the couch next to you searching for anything worth watching on TV (which is a first since he’s always glued to some book), rolls his eyes at your comment. “Can’t help it if the book’s good.”
“Jason, we go to the book store every week because you finish all the books you buy within a week!” You articulated, you’re now sat up facing him with your phone dropping somewhere behind you forgotten.
“I’m a fast reader.” Jason states with a shrug, he pauses. “Also, how is it any different from you reading fanfics on your phone?”
Your cheeks redden at that, you throw a pillow at him. “I told you not to bring that up!” You huffed in embarrassment. “Plus…, it’s only once every other day.”
“In other words— when I’m not here, still remember that one time I caught you reading it on MY computer.”
You glare at him, to which he gives you a cocky grin back. ‘This little shit.’ You thought. You hate how’s he sees right through you, but somewhere in the deepest pits of your heart, you secretly adore it.
You sit up straighter and lean closer to his side, he pauses his mindless scrolling on the TV to look at you with a raise eyebrow.
“I bet I can read a whole book in one sitting.”
Jason scoffs, “in one day?”
“Yes, in one day.” You roll your eyes.
“Babe, it took you two months to finish a book you claimed to be your all time favorite… and that was last summer.”
“Are you doubting me, Mr Todd?” I squint at him. He looks at you with an unimpressed face, but slowly lets out a sigh and shakes his head. “No, ma’am. I am not.”
You grinned triumphantly, filled with determination but gets interrupted. “Then I’ll do it!” “But— ”
“But?”
“—I also read with you.”
“With me?” You blink.
“I want to see how many books I can get done while you’re stuck on the first one.” He shrugged, you gawk in offense, but your stubborn pride doesn’t falter.
“I doubt you’ll get far.”
“We’ll see.”
