After years of putting it off, I am finally having surgery tomorrow. . About a year into lifting (about 4 years ago now) I injured my shoulder while doing incline dumbbell flys. I was using weight that was too heavy, lost control, and when I tried to drop the dumbbell the edge of it caught my hand and pulled it back and behind my head. . I decided to rehab it through physical therapy and had some success. I was still able to progress in lifts, but I have had to constantly do extra work with my left arm to try to keep it on par with my right. . As time went on it became more and more difficult to keep it strong and healthy. It constantly aches, is much weaker than my right in some positions, and still feels rather unstable. . I will be getting a SLAP tear repair as well as a bicep tenodesis tomorrow. SLAP repair is basically reattaching the labrum to the bone which should help with the stability. For a tenodesis they cut the bicep long head tendon and reattach it to the humerus instead of the shoulder labrum. . Recovery usually ranges from 2 - 5 months to regain normal function. It could take up to a year or more to get back to lifting how I usually do, though. That is for normal recovery methods. I will be pulling out every trick I have researched to help expedite recovery as well as retain strength. I will share that info in upcoming posts. . I will also share plenty about the recovery process and progress. But for now, I'm just trying not to freak myself out about it. I have put this off for a while and now it is time to try and fix it. . Happy to receive any good vibes you all send as it will help to keep me sane during this. 🙂. . . . . #ketoinglife #slaptear #shouldersurgery #biceptenodesis #surgeryrecovery #shoulderrepair #mri #ketocommunity https://www.instagram.com/ketoing.life/p/CXMI_ylO3hj/?utm_medium=tumblr
