When he was angry, his eyes would seem almost pitch black, hard to find his pupil in the darkness of his eyes. He didn’t get angry at you often. In fact, he very rarely got angry at you. Most of the time, his anger was founded by another emotion; jealousy. He couldn’t help it, he really couldn’t. You were a real catch. Why would you be with someone like him, someone so... Broken? What he still had yet to understand, was the fact that you were broken in some ways, too. The two of you were like puzzle pieces, slotting perfectly together. 

“Baby, make the sun go away,” Mike whined, burying his face into the crook of your neck, one tattooed arm slung over your waist. You reached up to run your fingers through his hair, humming softly. “Afraid I can’t do that, babe,” You replied in your typical dry humor. “The solar system would definitely be all out of whack, and then we’d be living in permanent darkness.” Mike huffed a soft laugh into your skin, his lips brushing against the soft skin of your neck. 

“Well, we don’t need anymore darkness in the world,” Mike replied, his smile fading slightly. He hated how he got in his own head. You two were having a perfectly lovely moment, and he had to go and ruin it by making a comment about all of the bad things going on in the world. You hummed in reply once more, your fingers still idly running through his hair. “That’s very true, babe.” Your fingers scratched lightly at his scalp, and he sighed in contentment. “That’s why we won’t add to it,” You continued, your voice soft, all hints of humor gone. 

“You don’t know that,” Mike protested weakly, unable to stop the words from coming out of his mouth. He wanted to punch himself in the face; you were trying to help him feel better, and he wasn’t letting you, for some reason. You shook your head. “But I do know that,” You argued lightly. “Because I know that you’d never do anything bad, anything that could ever hurt someone. You won’t add to the darkness, even though you think you might. I know you won’t, because you’re a good person, babe,” You cut yourself off, shaking your head once more. “No, you’re a great person. Not just good. Do you think I could add to the darkness that’s going on in the world?” You asked softly.

Mike scoffed at the very idea. “Fuck no!” He protested vehemently. “There’s not a chance in hell, that you ever could, baby!” He insisted. You ran a hand down his back to soothe him. You were trying to get your point across, and by his loud declarations, you knew you had. Mike lifted his head from your neck, his big brown eyes glimmering at you. His lips were curled into the softest smile, and he reached up to trace the shape of your lips with his fingertips, making your own lips quirk up into a soft, shy smile. “I love you,” Mike told you, his voice gentle and sweet. “Thank you.” What was left unsaid was the fact that he was thanking you for being there for him, for lifting him out of his funk before he could fully settle into it.
