Traveling may not be an option at the moment, but traveling down memory lane always is! An illustration of the beautiful Wyoming ranch house we stayed in. Sunrise yoga, star gazing, the largest rainbow I’ve ever seen in my entire life, cute little bunnies, coyotes howling at night. All with fabulous company of course. #happytimes . . . . . #sirinthada #art #illustration #painting #wyoming #landscape #traveldeeper #exploretocreate #prairie #steppe https://www.instagram.com/p/CCFKkmcnCD3/?igshid=1t7ihfztnzgne
Tell me a little bit about the sculptures you made for the current exhibit at the @amnhnyc! From @rannahaw, Brooklyn, New York: “I made a 4 year old T. rex and an adult Xiongguanlong, which is a tyrannosauroid that pre-dates T. rex by about 60 million years. I worked closely with paleontologists to sculpt the heads, hands and feet in clay. Beck Meah (@beckmeah) helped with some of the detailing. MacGregor Harp (@chin_up_bar) and Olivia Biggs (@8entropy) and I all worked on the molding and casting of the pieces. I made steel armatures that could be broken down at the heads and tails for travel, and then I coated them with spray insulation foam that is easy but very messy to carve. I worked pretty directly from some beautiful scale models made by Jason Brougham (@yeahiwish). After sculpting, I coated the foam with fiberglass and resin. Alis Atwell (@alisatwell), David Kirshoff (@ok_im_back_on_it) and Roxanne Yamins (@proteinstyle88) all helped me texture the surface with epoxy clay and adhere hundreds and hundreds of broom straws for feathers.
I think my favorite part of the process was really studying bird and crocodile references and fantasizing about the ways the tyrannosaurs would be similar or different. I imagined the musculature over the skeletal structure would develop a certain way to make them run faster, or that the fleshy parts of their faces would move as they breathed. And this helped bring them to life for me. What most people don’t know is that T. rex had such incredibly powerful hind legs, graceful balance, and acute hearing, that paleontologists believe they liked to listen to music and dance. Just kidding! But it was crazy to realize how much knowledge about these species is based first on hypotheses. Think of an animal you know, and try to imagine what it would look like having only ever seen 5 of its bones!”
Just an illo of our neighborhood park! 🌳Indie’s been having a ball every day playing here—chasing squirrels, woodchucks, and the occasional rat. She has zero interest in birds, but she does love to lunge at flocks of pigeons, just to watch them flutter and flee in absolute terror. At night, we’ll often see raccoons… And she and Jason have even come within a few feet of skunks and opossums!! Hardly anything exotic, but considering this is Manhattan, we’ll take it! ❤️🐾❤️ . . . . . #sirinthada #illustration #illustratorsoninstagram #lifestyleillustration #illustragram #watercolorillustration #nycparks #nyclife (at Fort Tryon Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAtmNVzH6SO/?igshid=1kd1sn2rh3ioj
From Tommy Pico (@heyteebs): ”Like, poetry? In a global pandemic? In a severe economic downturn? Fuck that shit. But I went. There were maybe twelve of us in the room. Everybody read. I felt it. Poetry and honesty. Poetry and a clarity of feeling. Poetry and a truth. I needed something so badly to be true." So stoked to illustrate his essay, inaugurating @Catapult’s new POETRY series (also edited by @heyteebs). Special thanks to @mattortile ❤️ Link in bio (including audio of his reading!). . . . . . . #sirinthada #tommypico #catapult #illustration #editorialillustration #magazineillustration #editorialart #magazineart #illustrated #zoom #zoommeeting #poetryillustration #quarantinelife #illustratorsoninstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CBwi1FaHX9O/?igshid=1gn54cbcuk87e

From my #quarantine #sketchjournal: last night’s DIY haircut! I felt like I’ve been tripping over my hair and getting ensnared in everything lately—I think my last haircut was actually almost a whole year ago?? The blasphemy! So, off it went! It’s still well past my shoulders, but goodness me I feel ten pounds lighter. ✨✂️✨ . . . . . #sirinthada #sketchbook #sketchbookart #sketchdiary #sketchbookpages #sketchbookdrawing #gouache #haircut #haircuts #haircutting #longhairdontcare #diyhaircut #quarantinelife #quarantineartclub #pandemic #peopledrawing #nyc #nyclife #nyclifestyle (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_Q6h3UnsD8/?igshid=a9ttqh0gpoyh
Sending lots of positive healthy vibes to you and yours, and thinking of all of you may be suffering and dealing with sickness. ❤️💔❤️ Sorry for being away for so long. I’ve been fortunate to stay busy for now with some fun work projects I’ll eventually be able to share (lots of owls, some embroidery, more editorial)… Although @yeahiwish, @IndieTheIntrovert, and I feel fine, we have been vigilant about staying at home, enjoying our time with each other…annnnd, truth be told, I’ve been spending more time over at @IndieTheIntrovert making lots more CARTOONS! It’s been a nice break from work, and losing myself in all the crosshatching is meditative and relaxing. While I’m certainly not trying to downplay the severity of everything that’s happening, personally, stress is the number one thing that lowers my immune system, and clouds my thinking. The life force is weird, often harsh, and unpredictable—and for me, these times are most certainly a reminder of how to accept and navigate uncertainty in all its forms, and all sizes. It’s also a reminder to me of how much I appreciate ALL the people in my life! Sending lots of love, and wishing all of you good health and healing and safety ❤️🌈🌟💪💓 . . . . . #sirinthada #IndieTheIntrovert #cartoonistsoninstagram #cartoon #comic #dogcartoon #quarantinelife #telework #covid19 #socialdistancing #dogsofnyc #nyc #newyorker #tnycartoons #newyorkercartoons #cartoonoftheday #cartoonstrip #comicstrip #dailycomics #funny #welcomehome #workingfromhome #doggreetings #itsadogslife (at Manhattan, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/B-BJk9aHfNO/?igshid=1dlye6lf8mxo2
Link in bio—announcing new blog posts every Friday at www.sirinthada.com/blog! This one is all about my favorite art supplies. 🎨 I’ve gained so much learning about other artists’ favorite brands and materials, decided it was time to share my own. Hope you enjoy, possibly find a new favorite for yourself—and of course, if you have your own loves you’re willing to disclose, please please share below! I ADORE trying out new materials and adding things to my wishlist (the Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors are definitely up there…) Happy weekend! . . . . . #sirinthada #liveauthentic #livecolorfully #livecreatively #lifeofanartist #homeinthestudio #artiststudio #artsupplies #artistsoninstagram #artprocess (at Manhattan, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CAiUioZnPRX/?igshid=17ek08s1f4w8e
