Hi guys,
We are Agathe and Candice, whatâs up?
We are just arrived from France and we are so exited to be here!
To introduce ourselves, we are students in a business school located in Normandy and to validate our bachelor degree, we have to go abroad. Hungary is the best choice we could have made. Improve our English, discover a new way of life and just live like a Hungarian, thatâs our goals. We know each other for 4 years and we are roommate for 2 years.
Candice /kÉÌ.dis/: I grew up in a small city named Falaise and then I moved to Saint-Lo in order to do my business school. I speak French, English, Spanish and a little bit German. Iâve already been in England, Ireland, Germany and Spain but never in Budapest. This is a new journey for me and I canât wait to discover all the secrets of SIRIAT and visit the all capital!
Agathe /a.ÉĄat/: Iâm the third child of a tribute of 3. I grew up in a really tiny village, near from Falaise, but it makes my happiness because of my family. So leaving them to go to Hungary was so difficult for me. But I know that I will live a beautiful adventure. As Candice, I moved to Saint-Lo for my studies. Thanks to my school, I learnt lots of things about trade. In the future, and if I can do it, I would like to work in an international aspect. So this internship will help me to be able to speak with stranger (Iâm a little bit shyâŠ) and to obtain new professional abilities.
We were a little bit stressed and scared with the fact of speaking and understanding English. But it isnât the main problem⊠Indeed supermarkets donât translate their products in English and as we donât speak Hungarian, buying food become a real challenge! We didnât imagine it would be so hard to find butter or milk! Weâre looking forward to discover the city and the challenges that a foreign country offers to us. Even for writing this post itâs a challenge, as we donât have the same keyboard as yours.
We never lived in a huge city as Budapest, this is new for us. In Saint-Lo, we can do everything by foot, not in Budapest. Saint-Loâs area is 23,19 km2 whereas Budapestâs one is 525,2 km2. Besides, there are only 20 090 people VS 1 728 000 people in Budapest. We feel lost among the crowd.
We are also a little bit lost about the money and the tips. In France, we use euros and the forintâs value is really different. The biggest billet in France is 500 (=154 476 Ft), which is not frequently used, whereas in Hungary is 20 000 (=64,74E). Moreover, in France, we donât have the habit to leave a tip for the service, we have to accommodate with that.
The stores are different too. We lost our habits about all supermarkets we frequent most of the time. For example, we even donât know whatâs look like a tobacco! Heeeelp!!!
But on another side, we are really happy because there are a lot of building and monuments to visit. Buda temple is really huge and we would like to see the statue on the hill, among others things. We hope we can discover the city, learn new professional skills and take advantage: tan (because we donât really know sun in Normandy), lounge in thermal baths, drink cocktails⊠Â
Finally, we can say there is a common point between Saint-Lo and Budapest, which is they suffered during the World War 2. Indeed, Saint-Lo was destroyed and Stalineâs army occupied Budapest. Normandy is well known for its history with Guillaume LeConquĂ©rant and the D-Day.Â
Our journey just starts but we are already charmed by the city and we are impatient to discover our Hungarian life! What about your experience?
 Cheers from Budapest!
