yay, time to be predictable: To Winter in Russia
Hey, not completely predictable, I didn't know WHICH book of nile wip you would ask about <3
This is a getting-together, canon compliant fic. Or, at least canon with the only movie that matters!!!
Basically everyone goes to ground after a mission goes south and Booker takes Nile with him to a safehouse deep in the Russian wilderness in winter. Hence the name.
There's only one bed trope, forced proximity, slow burn, you get it.
Here's a snippet
Nile stepped into the room, but there was no sign of Booker. The room had a double bed with a chest at the foot of it, and a side table with what looked like an electric lamp, but Nile was sure this remote cabin didnât have electricity. A pile of blankets fell onto the bed and Nile jumped back in surprise. âHoly shit, Book!â Nile gasped. She now noticed a hole in the ceiling which Booker was lowering himself through. He jumped down onto the bed and reached up to pull a wooden hatch closed. âSorry, I wanted to get more blankets before it got colder.â âItâs fine.â Nile let her breathing even out as her conscious mind struggled to realize what she had already figured out. One bed. In nearly thirty years of this new life she had never been to a safehouse that didnât have enough beds for at least four of them. By that point she hadnât encountered a new safehouse in over a decade though. Still, this was strange. She stared at the bed for a beat before it dawned on her. âThis is your safe house,â Nile said slowly. âVery astute, Nile," Booker said, grabbing the blankets and moving back into the main room. âNo, I mean this is yours. Like your personal safe house.â Nile followed him out into the main room, but he didnât respond. Instead he set the blankets down on the sofa, sat down, and began unlacing his boots. âHas anyone else been here?â Nile asked, sitting down next to him and following his lead to take off her own boots. âOf course they have.â âWhen?â âAndy was last here in the 70s. Joe and Nicky in 1902, I think.â âYou realize thatâs all well before I was born, right?â Booker chuckled. âHave I told you how nice it is not to be the baby of the group anymore?â âYou have.â Nile rolled her eyes. âFrequently.â Booker stood up and walked over to stand by the fire. âWhat about you?â Nile asked as she finished removing her boots. Booker made a hmm sound as if he had been lost in thought. âWhen was the last time you were here?â Nile asked again. âThree- no four years ago, after Jakarta. Before that was around 2035-â Booker trailed off. Nile couldnât see his face but sheâd known him long enough to know that he was dancing around something, so she remained silent. âBefore that was after London,â Booker said, still staring at the fire. âThis is where I spent most of my short lived exile. At least, after Quynh was back.â
