and not to be too on the nose but some of this is crazy. I literally wrote a scene where Finnick attacks Annie with a knife and then strangles her to the point of nearly killing her when she gets it away from him, and in response she says some pretty nasty things to him because she’s scared and hurt and overwhelmed and her world has shattered around her. I can’t control what people take away from my work, nor do I want to, and in addition the whole point of that scene is that there’s no one to blame and no one’s at fault, which makes this even harder for them as a couple. but guess who was overwhelmingly sided with in that scenario. like that’s how deep this (misogyny) goes

I told a commenter this today but I have been asked several times about where my take on Annie comes from/why my dramatic divergence from the common fanon of her being soft and sweet and shy and caring. I think it’s a legitimate question, and my legitimate answer to this is that among other things, it simply does not interest me to write a woman that way, any woman. you would never in a million years write a male character where those were his defining characteristics and nothing else. as such, I will never write a woman that way. and yes, of course I think there’s strong arguments from canon that back my approach and at the same time, that fanon option being the predominant interpretation of a disabled woman, which to me flies directly in contradiction of the few words she says with her mouth, is imo an excellent example of how ableism and misogyny can converge to color peoples’ interpretations of her and is something worth being aware of.
