Hadal: 'love language' robe with an Arabic love poem by Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish embroidered onto the sleeve.
The poem reads:

[ Reaper Ash. Hunger Games. ]
I canāt get Reaper out of my head. Out of all the characters, he truly stays with you. He was so raw and had a rage so many can relate to. One thing that truly gut punched me was the parallels to real life. The outrage from the crowd as a flag was torn down. Meanwhile not a word for the countless lifeless bodies of children. My heart hurt for Reaper, and my heart breaks for whatās happening in Palestine.

most interesting thing you have learned about this year so far?
Iāve learned lots of interesting things this year! I wouldnāt say that this specifically is the most interesting thing, but it to me is a fact that opens the door to a lot of interesting things, which is that in medieval times, sex, gender, and sexuality were not separate categories. they were all linked conceptually. the repercussions of this are staggering in terms of how sex differences (because āgenderā itself wasnāt a separate thing from sex, either, right) were constructed and enforced through things like regulating clothing and sexual behavior, and how those regulations defined in turn sex differences. this is important because a) there are so, so many repercussions for understanding history in terms of how queer people and women moved through society at that time and b) the late Middle Ages and the consolidation of the churchās power and influence is the distant basis for a lot of conservative and puritanical ideas today. this is why terfs spout shit that sounds like itās medieval, because it is! itās based on this conservatism that dates back to the Middle Ages. and learning about history is deeply important because of things like this, because beliefs from the 1400s have very small but still tangible impacts on our lives today.
In Your Echo?
a fun fact about In Your Echo is that originally it contained why Annie and Johannaās relationship ended. I think itās deeply important and I think I will not post it in a fic so Iāll share it now. something also very important to understand this is that for me, the behemoth diverges from canon when the ficās first chapter starts and Katniss goes to Four to tell Annie Finnickās alive. everything else that happens before that is how I see postcanon events unfolding.
which is to say that I think that they threatened and coerced Annie into being medicated and submitting to mental health treatment and invasive check ins she did not want in order to keep her son. and she wants her baby, so she went along with it. but in both the behemoth and in my more canon timeline, she reaches her breaking point and stops cooperating and taking the medication when her son is about four. she recognizes she canāt live like that and she hates it, and itās making her parenting worse.
in both cases, they then immediately try to take her son. in a canon timeline, I think they in some sense succeed. they take him out of the house and place him in his cousinās home, and Annie (and Johanna) then spend a week going around and around with CPS and the doctors trying to get him back. the doctors do not relent. Johanna is the one whoās like look. thereās one last way you can get through to them, because the corruption in Panem is not going to vanish in five years and people are still financially struggling. whatever it takes to get him back is worth it.
and Annie agrees. they take all the money that was Finnickās victorās winnings, that she received as a lump sum after the war, and they use it to pay everyone off so that they will leave Annie and her son alone. it works! but the horrible process of them going through that together, of losing her son even briefly and having to do something that drastic to get him back, ruins their relationship. neither of them are sad about it really because him being with his mom is far more important than their relationship, but something that traumatic and stressful does ruin relationships and I think it made them both realize that their priorities and visions about life, as well as their moral codes, donāt fully align and theyāre better off going separate ways. it stays fun and weird between them forever though donāt worry
would you prefer to never be able to read again or never be able to write?
never be able to writeā¦I love writing but writing does not rejuvenate me the same way reading does. Iāve been much more vigilant about making time to read books recently and it is so much better for my focus and memory and itās just also overall very fun and fulfilling. I encourage everyone to read actual published books more often
