With few exceptions, verbs justify their actions in the framework of time by using inflections (an –s ending, an –ed ending or an –ing ending). This is called the verb’s tense.
We’re all familiar with present, past, and future. Unfortunately, it doesn’t stop there because there are twelve possible verb tenses. Yep!
That’s four groups of present, past, and future tense with which to contend: simple, perfect, progressive and perfect progressive. Not to worry, it sounds worse than it really is.
