Hässleholm's church, Sweden.
(Finally got to see the interior when I took these pictures; I had been trying to go there with a friend who lives in the town a few times but it just so happened to be closed for reasons each and every time.)
Early in the narrative, [the disciples'] failures serve to highlight the forces arrayed against Jesus if Jesus is to accomplish his mission. During the Passion, their flight and Peter’s denial confirm the fact that everything which occurs has been fixed in God’s plan. Jesus’ prophetic word about their fate and his own is confirmed. Since it is verified by the disciples’ actions during the Passion, the reader also recognizes that the Easter promise will also be fulfilled. Mark’s narrative plays the weakness of the disciples off against the knowledge which his Christian readers have of the later witness that the disciples gave to Jesus. For a persecuted community, this depiction of radically flawed disciples serves as reassurance that they too can endure to the end.

John 21
18 Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.”
19 This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.”
