The Death Of Humanity
That is what you think it is, bits and pieces of human flesh on a childโs backpack representing the death of humanity.
Not just any flesh, but the flesh of his father.
This is what your tax dollars are doing.

Albrecht Altdorfer Workshop (German, c. 1480-1538) The Martyrdom of Saint Erasmus (1518โ1520)
โ Saint of the Day โ Saint Philomena
โThe Lily of Purity and the Wonder-Worker.โ
Saint Philomena is one of the most beloved virgin martyrs of the Catholic Church, despite the remarkable mystery surrounding her life. Unlike many early saints, very few historical records about her earthly life have survived. What we know with certainty is that she was an early Christian martyr whose tomb was discovered in the Roman Catacombs of Priscilla on May 25, 1802.
Her tomb bore the Greek inscription โPeace be with you, Philomenaโ and symbols commonly associated with Christian martyrdom, including an anchor, arrows, a palm branch, and a lily. Inside were the relics of a young woman who had given her life for Christ. This discovery sparked great interest among the faithful, and devotion to Saint Philomena quickly spread throughout Europe.

A later private revelation received by Sister Maria Luisa di Gesรน described Philomena as the daughter of a Greek king who consecrated her virginity to Christ at the age of eleven. According to this account, the Roman Emperor Diocletian sought to marry her, but she refused because she had already dedicated herself entirely to Jesus. She endured imprisonment, torture, and repeated attempts on her life before finally receiving the crown of martyrdom through beheading.
The Churchโs devotion to Saint Philomena grew because of the extraordinary number of miracles attributed to her intercession. Countless healings and conversions were reported after her relics were brought to Mugnano, Italy. Her reputation became so widespread that she earned the title โThe Wonder-Worker.โ
Among her greatest devotees was St. John Vianney, the Curรฉ of Ars, who attributed many of the miraculous graces in his parish to Saint Philomenaโs powerful intercession. Other saints and blesseds, including St. Peter Julian Eymard, St. Damien of Molokai, and St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, also had a deep devotion to her.
Saint Philomena was not canonized through the formal process used today because she belongs to the ancient tradition of martyrs honored by the Church. Instead, the Holy See officially approved public devotion to her in the nineteenth century after examining the evidence surrounding her relics and the many miracles associated with her intercession.
Whether contemplating the historical martyr whose relics were discovered in the catacombs or the inspiring traditional account preserved through centuries of devotion, Saint Philomena reminds us that heroic holiness is found in complete fidelity to Christ. Her witness continues to encourage Christians to remain pure in heart, steadfast in suffering, and full of hope in Godโs promises.
