Overview:
Enchanting is the simadi granted by Adaliah to her most devout followers and her favorite bards and musicians. The mark creates either an enchanter or enchantress, who has the ability to weave Adaliah’s magic in their sung word, or the music produced by whatever instrument they might choose to play. The magic is bewitching, causing whatever sound is produced to sound even more melodic and beautiful. Further, it allows enchanters to sway, manipulate, and control their listeners. Those who are cursed by the goddess are more easily swayed by enchanters and soon begin to lose their appreciation of music and the joy it may bring them.
How it Works:
Adaliah’s marks are passive abilities, in the sense that they will occur naturally and unbidden whenever music is played or sung. In the case of the blessed, the marks will manifest themselves by infusing an enchanter’s song and their instrumentals with a powerful magic, which can be used to sway the world’s denizens. In the case of the cursed, the individual will naturally become more susceptible to persuasion and begin to lose their appreciation for music and the lightness it may bring to their hearts.
Appearance:
A single positive mark takes the form of a musical note. It can be any type of musical note; although, it is always black. A second mark adds another musical note, and the third, another. When an individual becomes Adaliah’s champion, they bear four musical notes upon their flesh. These notes are laid out over transparent sheet music, which flows naturally into their skin. To the left of the notes will be either a bass or treble clef. A cursed individual’s mark progression follows a similar pattern, although each of the notes or the single note is on its side, as though they have fallen over.
Mark Progression:
Marked [Cursed] - 1 Simadi
· At this level, an enchanter or enchantress will play music, which many will find mesmerizing and hard to pull away from. A cursed individual will be more susceptible to an enchanter’s powers.
Favored [Despised] - 2 Simadi
· At this level, an enchanter is capable of playing mesmerizing music, which they can use to evoke different emotions in their listeners. A despised individual will become even more susceptible to an enchanter’s powers.
Priest/Priestess [Adversary] - 3 Simadi
· At this level, an enchanter is capable of playing mesmerizing music, which they can use to manipulate their listeners; instilling thoughts within their minds, which had not been there before. The tone of the music or the words of the song is that, which serves to manipulate a listener. An adversary is extremely susceptible to an enchanter’s powers as well as different persuasive techniques in general.
Champion [Nemesis] - 4 Simadi
· A champion of Adaliah plays truly captivating music. They are the greatest bards, which can use their music to manipulate and control those around them. The words they weave into their songs, as well as the sound of the music they play, is what guides the actions of their listeners, and can be used to bend them to their will. A nemesis of Adaliah has lost all appreciation for music. While they are easily enchanted, they don’t seem to hear it anymore; simply bending to its will. They are not comforted by instrumentals or song, and are incapable of fully comprehending the art of music. They are generally easily persuaded and more easily hypnotized and manipulated by other individuals than their unmarked counterparts.
