New video!
There's new(ish) video up on youtube giving a quick guide to sandstones. This is the same video I uploaded last year, but I've cleaned the audio up so that you can actually hear what I'm saying now!

Agatized marine mammal bone
A blue agatized whale bone fossil
One of my favorite silicified whale bones I have ever found. Last winter, towards the end of the day when the light was dim I saw from a distance what looked like a bright white quartz standing out from the dark shales surrounding it and as I got closer the surface textures immediately made me realize it was fossil bone. I’ve never seen another piece like it. I jumped for joy.

Silicified mammal bone
Silicified mammal bone
A small but absolutely beautiful piece of silicified mammal bone. Sometimes they almost become so silicified that you lose the structure of the vesicles or they are so opaque that you can’t see anything. The best ones have translucency, but maintain the dark structures within.
