It hurt.
Everything they saidā everything they thought about you. You tried to convince yourself that you couldnāt make everyone happy,
But letās be real.. you canāt make anyone happy. Especially not when they were right about you.
Your phone screen was the only thing that gave light to the dim room, as you stared at each sentence they typed out so carelesslyā they felt like cuts across your already wounded skin. At first, you told yourself you were reading to understand. To see what you need to changeābecause if you could do that, then they wouldnāt hate you as much. Right?
Only after hours of scrolling did you realize that you werenāt looking for understanding at allā you were looking for proof that they were right. And youād found it. Over and over.
Your gaze drifted to the shelves of your room. Letters, Drawings, Plushies, Trinkets. Things that your fans had given you with care in their eyes, as if you were someone they had admired. Now each one just stared back at you like a lie.
Your fingers wrapped around a keychain that was shaped like a star. You remembered the fan who gave it to you, you remembered the warmth in her voice. And yet all you could picture at that moment was her writing something cruel with the same hands that once held yours with care.
The star hit the floor with a sharp clinkā even such a small item can make a sound with enough force. So why canāt you? It was silentā you hated the silence. You needed something, anything.
And so, you tore through the rest of your stuff to let out the angerā you snapped a bracelet in half, you ripped hundreds of letters until your hands stung. Until the paper cuts made your hands bleed. You broke it all apart, until the noise became desperate enough to mask the absence of your own voice.
Because maybe if you tried hard enough, the sounds would replace the silence.
By the end, your room looked like someone had broken in. Pieces of torn paper covering your room, pearls from a once well made bracelet lay scattered, and the cotton from the stuffed toys are ripped out of their shells.
It felt suffocating.
You shoved your arms into a hoodie, pulling it over yourself. And, before you knew it, you slipped out of your room. The penthouse was quiet at this hourāthe other three were asleep.
Your footsteps barely touched the floor as you moved through the halls silently, avoiding the creaks you knew by heart. The glass doors at the lobby gave way to the cool night air, and the moment it hit your skin, you felt⦠lighter. You didnāt feel like an idol. Not a disappointment, nor a hunter.
You felt normal for once.
You didnāt look back at the Tower. You just ran, letting the streets blur around you until the city lights thinned and the hum of cars and generators faded into nothing.
You didnāt know where you were going, all you knew was that you needed to leave. You ran until it took you to an empty beach.
The sand stretched out endlessly under the moon, No people. No voices. Only the wind and the oceanās waves.
You walked further, past the sandcastles and drawings on the sand, the lost ring that shone under the moonlight, the set of keys that laid rusted, half-buried under the sand. All of itā things that had mattered, now forgotten.
Like you.
You stopped at the edge of the water.
If you go in.. will you finally be enough?
If you die, Huntrix will get the kind of sympathy they canāt buy. Rumi will finally stop feeling like she needs to compete for the leader spot. Zoey wonāt have to feel guilty every time the group fights over you. Mira will have her perfect family without you ruining the picture. The people would stop talking about you.
And your mother.. sheāll only have her golden child to worry about. Not you. Not the disappointment. Sheāll be happier.
Your throat burnedā not because you talked too much, but because you havenāt talked. It hurt because of all the words youād never been able to give a voice to.
You took a step into the ocean.
The water wrapped around your ankle like it was pulling you in. You took a step further.
The cold climbed up to your knee. Even the tide made a sound as it receded, the water slamming against the shore. The sun was long gone, it was just the moon and its stars in the dark sky. Honestly? The water felt nice, it felt calming.
You took another step, feeling the waves wash over your hips.
And if you were to take a few more steps, if the water went a bit higher, if you went a bit farther, it would drag you down with it, and you wouldnāt have to fight anymore. The silence would win.
You would be at peaceā
āHey!ā
The voice cut through the silence. And you froze.
An old woman stared at you with concern, a knitted shawl pulled tight around her shoulders, hair bright against the dark. She walked towards you, just close enough to grab your wrist, her grip firm but not rough, guiding you back toward the shore.
āItās dangerous out here so late,ā she said softly. āThe waves get so much stronger during the night.ā

You felt it. that noose. the noose that choked you whenever you dared to speak, the one she had tied around your throat the moment you were born.
The door to the common room was slightly ajar, just enough for the sounds of muffled laughter, an action scene, and the voice of someoneā probably Mira, complaining about the plot to be heard. You wouldnāt admit it but you definitely smiled at the thought of them enjoying it.
They deserved the break.
You stayed just outside, the plastic bag in your hand wrinkling as you held it tighter. Inside were the snacks you had bought after trainingā You wanted to watch with them too, but maybe not tonight.
So instead of walking in, you crouched by the doorway and gently placed the bag on the small table beside it. A handwritten sticky note went with it.
For movie night. Sorry, had to do something. āyn
You looked at the door one last time. You swallowed down the ache already making itās presence known in your throat, then turned and leftā already dreading the appointment.
You remembered to leave Rumi a text though.
Rumi had tried contacting you, but was met with a simple āCanāt goā message. It definitely made a part of her upset, but she didnāt dare comment on it.
Midway through the movie, during an in-between scene, Zoey glanced towards the door.
āWas that open before?ā she asked, pointing. Mira squinted. āHuh?ā
Rumi turned her head. āWaitāā She got up, walking over to peek through the gap. āGuysā¦ā she called, crouching. āShe left snacks.ā She smiled softly.
āWhat?ā Zoey blinked. āWho?ā
āyn.ā Rumi held up the bag and unfolded the note. Her eyes softened. āShe.. wrote something.ā
Zoey made a face. āSo she was here?ā
āAnd she left without even making her presence known, again.ā Mira sighed. āWhy even bother?ā
Zoey whined, probably for the hundredth time this day. āItās like she wants to avoid us on purpose. Likeācome on, just hang out with us for once. Is that so hard?ā
āShe said she had to do something. She did send a message earlier too,ā Rumi said, lips pursing.
āYeah, well, she always has something to do,ā Zoey said, grabbing a handful of her gummies. āI donāt get her.ā
āMaybe theyāre just excuses,ā Mira muttered, though a part of her sounded unsure.
Rumi didnāt say anything else. She sat back down, popcorn in her lap. But her eyes werenāt on the screen anymore.
They were on the door, even though she knew that you wouldn't walk through that door. Atleast not tonight. She just wonderedā where were you? and why arenāt you coming home tonight? again, she wouldnāt dare admit it, but a part of her was jealousā who were you coming home to?

The soft lighting of the clinic makes the room feel way more colder than it actually is as you sit across from the doctor.
āYour voice is still unstable, weāll manage it best as a chronic condition,ā he explains. āYouāll need daily medication and strict dietary restrictionsāno seafood, no junk food, no cold drinks and no stress that might trigger flare-ups. Please understand this isnāt optional.ā
You give him a nod as he hands over a written care plan / prescription. āLetās check your progress in two weeks,ā he added.
It had been a few days since then. And unfortunately, due to Rumi uploading the Golden MV out of the blue, you were forced to use your voice more than planned.
You guys had performed a concert a few days prior, and the honmoon almost turned gold. You could assume this was the reason Rumi pushed through the release of the single earlier than planned, however, your voice was at its limit.
It was already discussed that youād get a week of break after that concertā yet now you were forced to sing a live version of Golden immediately after. This infuriated you. First, she takes your spot as the leader, and now she changes the schedule last minute?
But that wasnāt even the worst part.
Your name trendedāfor the wrong reasons.
And even though fans didnāt know the full story, even though they didnāt know about the nights you had coughed up blood into tissues just trying to rehearseāyou couldnāt help but scroll.
And scroll.
And scroll.
Each post chipped away at your heart. Youād been quiet because you needed to. You were just following what your mom told you. So why? Why were you suffering for it?

You opened your mouth, but nothing came out. Because your voice is no longer yours. And it hasn't been for a long time.
A strangled sob escaped you instead, as your knees gave out on you. You fell into the sand with a soft thud, curling in on yourself.
āHey now,ā the woman said, crouching down behind you. āSweetheart.. Do you want to talk about it?ā Her eyes were soft and motherly-like.Ā
You just shook your head. You squeezed your eyes shut as your shoulders heaved with silent sobs. The woman didnāt speak. She continued to sit in front of you on the sand, pulling her shawl open and draping it over your shaking frame.Ā
Eventually, after what felt like an eternity, you sat up slowly, wiping your soaked cheeks. āIāIām sorryā you tried to say, but the moment you opened your mouth, nothing but air came out. No voice, just shame.
The woman watched you with kind eyes. āCan you talk?ā
You shook your head, the motion hesitant. āDo you know sign language?āĀ Another shake.Ā
The woman let out a quiet sigh, but it wasnāt a frustrated sigh. It was nothing like the usual sigh you hear. For once, there was no disappointment in it. At least not towards you. āI see. You know, I uhm .. I had a daughter once.. She was like you. She couldnāt talk either.ā
Your eyes lifted towards her.Ā
āSheās gone now,ā the woman said softly, staring out at the waves. āShe died here, 3 years ago. Right here on this beach.ā
Your eyes widened, your entire body stilling.
āI think,ā the woman continued, voice cracking, āshe was tired. Tired of not being understood. Tired of being ignored. Tired of being told she wasnāt enough.ā
A wave crashed nearby, louder this time. āShe died by drowning, but sometimes I wonder if it was the silence that killed her and not the depth of the sea.ā
You bit your lip hard to keep more tears from falling, but they fell anyway. Even at controlling your emotions, you fail.Ā
āShe was kind,ā the woman whispered. Turning to look at you as she continued to talk.Ā āand beautiful. But I never saw her gentleness when she was alive. I only saw the things she couldnāt do. I didnāt hear how loud she actually was, I didnāt hear the words she couldnāt say.āĀ
Your breathing grew shaky, the story felt too close to home.Ā
āI told her she was useless,ā the woman choked. āI called her a burden. I said the kind of things you only realize are poison once itās too late.ā She turned to you, her eyes rimmed red. āAnd now.. sheās gone. My babyās gone. And those words were the last ones she ever heard from me.ā
āShe used to cry without sound too,ā the woman said. āLike youāre doing now. And Iā¦I never knew how loud the silence could be until she stopped being here to cry at all.āĀ
The two of you sat in stillness, the waves crashing as if even the waves, even the ocean, was mourning with you.Ā
āAh, Iām sorry,ā the woman said at last, wiping her tears. āI didnāt mean to dump all that on you. You just reminded me of her.ā
You looked at her and gave her a sad smile. It was the only thing you had to offer.
The woman reached out, gently tucking a stray hair behind your ear. āYouāre not alone, even if you feel like no one hears you.ā She smiled at you softly. You wondered if she was saying this because it was you, or because you reminded her too much of her daughter.Ā
Maybe deep down it wasnāt even for you at all, maybe it was something she wished she could tell her daughter but couldn't, so she told it to you instead.Ā
You blinked, looking up at the sky, trying to hold back another wave of tears.
āI could teach you sign language,ā the woman said, clasping your hands together. āIf you want. So that you never have to stay silent when you donāt want to be.ā

The place was silent, save for the sound of wood clashing with the air. you tightened your grip on the blade, breath steady, posture perfect. you had trained for this moment since you could walk. every scar, every bruise, every sleepless night spent studying demon sigils and training your ass off until you passed outāevery moment had led to this.
Today, your mother would name her successor. She stood on the stone dais. In front of her, stood Mira, Zoey, and⦠Rumi.
āNow,ā Celine began, voice as sharp and commanding as ever, āI name the next leader of the Huntrix.ā You straightened, excitement blooming in your chest.
This was it. After everything, it would finally happen, your dream would finallyā
āRumi.ā A single word. A single name. But it was enough to make your entire world tilt sideways.
Applause erupted. Zoey squealed and clapped Rumi on the back, Mira nodded approvingly. And youā you just stood there. frozen. Not sure what to believe.
Your hands clenched at your sides. your throat tightened, your voice cracking silently with a phantom pain. You could already feel the familiar burnāanother reminder that even the voice youād once been praised for, the one that could sing demons into fear, was slipping away.
You turned away before anyone could see your expression. before the tears could betray you. you hated it, hated that at the back of your mind, you expected it. afterall, you canāt even sing.
You were nine when it first happened.
The training hall was empty, lit only by the slight glow of lanterns. you were alone, barefoot on the cold stone floor, wooden blade in hand, humming softly to yourself as you practiced the form your mom had taught you last week.
You liked to sing while you trained. it helped you keep your rhythm, helped you feel strong. your mother always said you had a gift. a rare one. a voice that could protect the lives of many.
So you sang. you spun, kicked, and struck your sword into the air. your fingers burned from gripping the hilt too tightly. your arms tremble after holding perfect form for hours now. but you kept going. If you stopped, youād feel the disappointment againāthe subtle sighs, the sharp glances, the way she looked at you when you failed.
You didnāt want to see that look anymore. you raised your voice with the next sweep of your arm, pushing the note higher, strongerā
But it cracked. startled, you froze.
You blinked, coughed, and tried again. the sound faltered. Something felt wrong. your voiceāit wasnāt coming out right. It was raspy, tight. like something was gripping your throat from the inside. as if even sound itself was disappointed at you.
Your heart pounded. you tried humming again, softer this time, but it scraped out like broken glass. your hand flew to your throat. nothing hurt, not reallyābut something was off.
āWhatā¦?ā you whispered. The sound barely came out.
Panic fluttered in your chest. You ran to the corner mirror, the tall one your mom used, to correct your stances. You opened your mouth, stared at your reflection. Nothing looked different.
But you knew something had changed. Because if your voice was goneāthen what were you good for?
She knew.
Celine knew immediately. You could almost see the panic in her eyesā after realizing that she may have just wasted her time training you. āKeep your voice intact. Visit the doctor every week. I donāt need a daughter who canāt even sing. Donāt even use your voice unless itās for singing. Understood?ā She said sternly. You almost couldnāt recognize her. Almost as if, she no longer looked at you like you were her daughter. As if you were just a stranger to her.
āBut Iāā You tried to speak, but a slap cut you off. āWhat did I tell you? Donāt speak!ā Your mom shouts. At first, it was accidental, at least thatās what she claimed. But it started to happen more often. Every time you dared utter a word outside of singing? A slap would greet your face.
After seeing the others retreat to their rooms, your legs moved before you could think. carrying you toward the inner chamber. the place where your mother went when she didnāt want to be disturbed. The place that was supposed to be off-limits.
You pushed the door open anyway.
Celine stood near the center, her back to you, methodically polishing her glaive. She didnāt even look up. your fists clenched. āWhy her?ā You asked, but she simply replied with aā āI didnāt give you permission to talk.ā unbothered by your presence.
āWhy her, Mom?ā you asked again, voice sharp. Too sharp. āWhy not me?ā
Celine turned slowly, tapping the table with her newly polished finger. āYou know why.ā Her words made you laughābitter and cracked. āNo. I dont. Iāve done everything. everything. Iāve trained longer than all of them combined. I know the moves by heart. I bled for this every single dayāā
āYou think thatās enough?ā she snapped, and for once, you saw itāthat flicker of something in her eyes. Disappointment. Frustration. Maybe even pity. You hated it. āThis isnāt about how hard you train. Itās about what people need in a leader.ā
āAnd you think thatās her?ā you barked, voice rising without your permission. You felt it falter at the end, like a knife scraping the edge of your throat. Your hand flew to your throat instinctively, wincing.
Celineās eyes narrowed. āControl your voice.ā
āI canāt,ā you hissed. āNot anymore.ā A slap met your face. Again. The silence that followed was heavier than any scream. āWeāre done here.ā she said flatly. Like it meant nothing. she turned her back to you again.
You blinked. āThatās it?ā
āI donāt have time for tantrums, yn. If you want to earn your place, youāll have to do better. You canāt lead without a voice.ā The words hit harder than any blade. You opened your mouth to say somethingāto beg, to screamābut nothing came out. Maybe you blamed your throat, or maybe, you just didnāt know what to say.
You backed away from the door, heart pounding. your vision blurred. You didnāt even remember leaving the room.

The sun was bright, casting a shadow across your face. You stood at the far edge of their training ground, arms folded, and eyes locked on Rumi as she struggled through a weapon disarm drill. Celineās strict training was nearly impossible to master on the first tryā if at all, but of course, Rumi was pushing through with a smile.
Your brows furrowed slightly. Her footwork was off. Her grip was too tight. You wanted to helpā āyouāre staring again,ā Mira muttered under her breath, circling you. āWhat is it this time? Is her form not perfect enough for your standards?ā
You didnāt reply. Not that you could.
Your eyes flicked away instead, biting the inside of your cheek. There was no point. Celine had made it clear, If it's not for singing, then you canāt use your voice at all.
It wasnāt worth the punishment again. Especially not the beating.
āYou know, just because youāre Celineās daughter and all doesnāt make you cooler than the rest of us,ā Zoey chimed in, her tone light but there was a hint of something else. Disdain? You couldnāt really tell, you could only assume.
āLike, we get it, youāre strong, youāre cool, but you donāt have to act like weāre beneath you or something.ā She shrugged, saying it so lightly, as if her words didnāt feel like a hundred swords to your heart.
You looked at them, startled, a dozen words ready to leap out of your mouth. Thatās not it. I canāt. Iām not trying to beā
But they stuck in your throat like thorns. You just gave a small shake of your head and turned away. They took it as you dismissing them once more. āWhat a bitchā Mira mumbled, earning a jab from Zoey. āYou know, you can talk to us, right?ā Zoey said, lighter this time. But you donāt reply.
Zoey wiped ash from her forehead and exhaled. āGosh, I thought that thing was never gonna die.ā You stood a few meters away.
Rumi jogged up beside you, panting. āHey, are you okay? That thing knocked you pretty hard.ā There she goes again, god. How could you hate her when sheās so.. kind? You nodded once, curtly, and walked away.
She stepped back. āā¦Right. Thanks for helping, I guess.ā Rumi said under her breath. Behind her, Mira rolled her eyes. āTypical. no thank yous, no words, no nothing. just her doing her main character thing again.ā
Rumi stared at you for a whole minute. āYeah,ā she said softly, uncertain. āI guess thatās just how she is.ā Rumi sighed, watching you walk away.
Later that evening, she brought out her phone, she opted to message you instead.
So, the story so far hasn't really changed enough on Rumi's situation that I think its likely that Rumi won't lose her voice, so it will be interesting to see YNs reaction to being told that they cancel the concert Rumi scheduled because Rumi can't sing.
I do think two things will happen here, and if they do it will contradict each other aswell as confuse the girls: YN will first be pissed at this, seeing as she'll have strained herself for nothing and had to hide for nothing...
Then she is likely to quietly go get things while the others discuss ideas and how 'Look how the ice queen doesn't even care to come up with ideas' only to give Rumi every product that might work, dosage, use time aswell as a notebook full of exercises and other tips for how to manage her voice. YN has dealt with this for years so she almost definitely have a lot of products seeing as more than likely most of her cut has gone to fix her voice. She might even leave sticky notes on the things, advising against the scam artist only for the girls to ignore it cause YN immediately leave after dropping this mountain of products on Rumi.
I do think Rumi will notice how most of these products and things, while new ish, have been used diligently and might even go be guided by YN through some exorcises - letting her look back and realize how long YN has struggled with this. How her sister in all but blood has been hurting just to 'keep up' with singing...
I can see a bit of them talking about their mutual weaknesses, but if they do start relying on each other I think they'd both accidentally drag each other down if they were to have a breakdown, as a form of self sabotage to make it feel more comfortable to have failed - because of its impossible, then its not as painful that it didn't work. If one of them can get better but not the other... What does that say about YN? Maybe her mother was right about her, those fans were right, the girls were right...
I think the big turning point will be when the girls sees YN coughing up blood, or see the evidence of it. YN will flee almost without fail, and the girls are not skilled enough to keep up, so... Yeah. Thats likely when Gwi-ma makes his offer, and YN becomes what they thought she was - because if the girls think she is just a selfish and frigid ice queen, why not live like it? Trying to fix things, to help, only lead to pain and rejection after all...

omg this is so. AS I TOLD U. U NEED TO WRITE. I can def see yn at first being glad that rumi is suffering the same thing sheās suffering with, but at the same time she knows how hard it is to deal with, so she helps rumi. from sharing the pills that she uses, the exercises, and everything else u mentioned. AND ESPECIALLY DURING THE WHOLE TIME WHERE RUMI IS LIKE A TICKING BOMB (the train scene with mira) I can definitely see rumi snapping at yn and say something she doesnt mean about ynās voice, and it causes their already strained relationship to be even more strained šš
