listening to the max levine ensemble ("hell of a week" has been my mental illness jam lately) and having a lot of happy feelings about the first time i saw them, and was also the first punk show i ever really went to and the first time i went to a show by myself and also because i'm seeing a show at backspace tomorrow which is where that show was

and wow that was just a really great experience. i was planning on going with an acquaintance/friend but he cancelled and this was at a time in my life when i was pretty much friendless and just excruciatingly lonely and him canceling made me feel really shitty and it just really drove home that i pretty much didn't have any friends at all (he was already more of an acquaintance than a friend). i think i may have been suicidal, i was so disappointed? but my mom suggested i go by myself, and i decided i would, which was a pretty scary thing to do because i have/used to have a deadly fear of being alone at events and looking n feeling lonely.

anyway i went and it was a blast, it was a rad show. i knew someone in one of the bands (in passing) and i said hi to them and oh god i was so happy that someone remembered me at all, like it really gave me fucking hope that i could interact with people? and i moshed for the first time and i probably looked a little uncomfortable in between sets, chilling by myself and generally being a little socially awkward babypunk but in the middle of the pit someone introduced the self to me and they were pretty nice. it was a good pit and i remember being squished and i had the biggest goofy fucking smile and i probably looked way happier than made sense. and after i got a patch and said bye to the person i knew. and then i seriously just floated for the next week or two, it was such a great experience to realize that even though i was lonely i wasn't hopeless and even if i was lonely i could still have fun by myself. ok my sappy first show story is over but wow that was a super significant experience.
