Yes Garbage looked like a bunch of middle aged Dads who somehow convinced Shirley Manson to be the frontwoman of their garage band. But they fucking rocked, and the drummer just so happend to produce two of the greatest American rock albums of all time - Nevermind and Siamese Dream.

Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream #smashingpumpkins #siamesedream #billycorgan If you know me in real life, you know that for better or for worse old-school Smashing Pumpkins are probably my favorite band of all time (though I like to pretend that anything after Adore was but a fever dream). Siamese Dream is honestly tied with Mellon Collie as my favorite and most influential albums, probably of all time. I’ve been a guitar player for about 25 years and Siamese Dream was the album that convinced me to save money from mowing lawns $5 dollars a pop to buy my first piece of garbage Fender Squier Stratocaster to emulate Billy Corgan. I listened to this album repeatedly on a busted old cassette walkman held shut with tape while I mowed every day one summer and got to a point where I could imagine and hum every part to every instrument. It would be years before I had any form of technical prowess to play most of these tracks and even longer before I’d own a Big Muff or Les Paul or any of the requisite gear to pull of a big self-indulgent SP song, but I never stopped loving the songs on this album. They’re beautiful as-is, but they’re infinitely valuable in how they’ve shaped me as a musician. I’m spending the rest of today setting up my home studio that’s largely been in storage for the past 4 years and I’m hoping to pick up right where I left off in songwriting and recording. My soundtrack for the day? Link to new music video in my bio. Just released. Growing up, I absolutely loved the Smashing Pumpkins and “Today” was the song that largely made me first fall in love with them. It ended up being the first song I learned how to play on guitar. This is a rap tribute to the Pumpkins and my high school.
