Personally, I see Shozo as the behind-the-scenes guy. He handles all of the technology, all of the script writing, role-giving, and so on and so forth. He's always been better at said things and greatly prefers it over nature and socializing.

I don't particularly like pulling headcanons out of nowhere, but each character will play at least the smallest part in the story, and I prefer to have them all planned out. On that note, I imagine what lead to him being so against socializing was simply the fact that he hung out more around adults than other kids.

Thanks to this, he's more mature and responsible than others around his age, gets more work done, and is just in general the "adult friend" in any group. He likely would have joined the Gaming Club if it didn't seem so unproductive. He probably joined the Drama Club due to it combining a couple of his favorite things while also keeping him productive.
