Dean driving late at night, quietly murmuring a conversation with Cas in the passenger seat as Sam sleeps in the back. They're on their way home from a hunt. Dean's tired and worn out, but Cas keeps making him laugh and smile- replacing the stress with fondness- with little jokes and conversations that makes the night fly by in a blur. And when he casts his eyes from the road over to Cas, the angel is looking at him with this awed little expression, almost as if Dean is the most magical thing Cas has ever laid eyes on. "I love you," Cas says, suddenly, out of nowhere, as if it were the most simple and obvious thing in the world. It's so startling and yet so right that Dean pulls over into the hard shoulder as quickly and carefully as possible; cutting the engine off. And when he leans over to kiss Cas for the very first time, there's nothing surprising about it at all. It feels like home, like a million stars bursting between them, and Dean wonders why he hadn't stopped to kiss Cas like this years ago.
Sam wakes up 20 minutes later and sees Dean and Cas kissing in the front seat and he's completely unsurprised, having seen the telltale signs they were in love for years. He gives them another minute before hurling his jacket at them in fond exasperation, telling them to stop kissing in front of him or he's never going to be able to go back to sleep.
