Other Ships! (Part 6)

Hey, I thought I’d do a couple bunch of posts for other popular ships in the fandom. (I may not love them but I’m sure others do!)

So… SHESWIN!

Sheska and Winry have a cute relationship that kind of just pops out of nowhere in canon and then proceeds to be absolutely lovely. They just get on really well, with the nice contrasts between Sheska shy, studious nature and Winry’s friendly, outgoing attitude. There’s this awesome moment where Sheska tells Winry she’s been secretly looking into Hughes’ work to find out his killer and she has some suspicions about the Fuhrer’s secretary and Winry immediately suggests breaking into the military to find out more. 

Did I mention the part where Winry invites Sheska to her home in Risembool? Well anyway, Sheska’s a kind and hardworking person but having someone more assertive like Winry in her life is good for her. She can be prone to flights of fancy and Winry helps to keep her more grounded. Meanwhile Winry can open up to Sheska and just be herself. Overall it’s pretty good dynamic, free from a lot of the angst and issues that plague many other pairings.They can have serious moments but also fun light-hearted antics.

Starting October 1st, we are going to take a month to step back in time appreciate FMA 2003.

First week will revolve around the Elric family, but also any other family in the series, such as Russel and Fletcher, Scar and his Brother, or Rick and Leo(though the first three days will be exclusive to Ed and Al and/or Trisha and Hohenheim) Though of course it can have just one of them. Second week will revolve around Team Mustang, and Hughes.

Third week will be revolving around the 03 homunculi.

And the fourth week will be there for characters you feel are underappreciated.

Last week is for pairings. Any pairings will be fine, as long as it is consensual and isn’t somebody being shipped with anybody less than 12 years old.) For once, let’s put our differences aside, and just admit that 03 was one hell of great series that had an impact on many of our childhoods and brings back many fond memories. For once, let’s just understand that Arakawa herself highly enjoyed the series and try to do the same, or leave those who like it alone.

Oh it’s a super-cute pair for sure. They’re friendship is just plain nice and I love ships that develop from a happy friendship because there’s no angst, just a good dynamic with plenty of chemistry.

And yeah, in this case, Sheska and Winry are both great about talking to each other and sharing their own issues. Like Sheska has been feeling really alone in Central, investigating Hughes’ murder on her own - she tries to get help but gets dismissed by Mustang and the conspiracy seems too dangerous to trust anyone else in the military. Then Winry comes along and she’s affected by Hughes’ death as well and is completely willing to listen to Sheska’s theories - even the far fetched ones. And it gets better as Winry is quick to suggest taking action, determined enough to take a few risks and break in to find out more. They complement each other so well! And they’re fun and enjoy each other’s company. And Winry even brings Sheska home with her. It’s awesome.

Of course, it’s so smooth and lovely that it’s not a ship I actively find the urge to really explore and delve into. You need to change nothing in their canon interactions to see a relationship form - they could have confessed their feelings to each other off-screen for all I know. That’s great but unlike the really angsty relationships that make me really want to dig into to find a functional and sweet dynamic amidst all their issues, I don’t have a lot to say.
