this is, of course, my flippant shorthand way of saying that i really appreciate that genshin engages thoughtfully and repeatedly with the topic of suicidal ideation and behavior, what it takes to go on living, what circumstances drive someone to or away from that ledge, what can be done (sometimes nothing), as well as metaphorical deaths(/suicides) and rebirth of the self. we see characters both recover slowly and succumb. we see it in both NPCs and playable characters. we see it in characters having acute mental breaks and/or experiencing severe trauma, and we also see it in characters who are calm and well reasoned about it. it's a topic which is very important to me and genshin (genshin!!!) approaches it with an amount of dignity and respect that's honestly pretty impressive to me

sometimes i feel bad making jokey posts like this until i look back at the game and am like, oh no that's just how it is like that's canon. he's visibly and vocally irritated about doing board 2. he laments keeping toriel locked up but feels (and isn't incorrect to believe) he has no choice if he wants to get his life back. he literally gives you free points during his "if i lose this fight i'm gonna fucking die!!!!" boss fight if you compliment him because he's that starved for positive attention. like i say sometimes he did nothing wrong as a joke (bc he certainly did) but then i look at those and am like, ok yeah he couldve also been like 20 million times worse about it and i wouldnt have been surprised
