no one, absolutely no one:
me: have a bunch of Shen Monkey screenshots, the only monkey in the game that does monkey thing by hanging on the tree :)
OMG!!! 🤣
Not us daydreaming of the ✨Wife Life✨ being what made us go..
“Huh….. is this Love?…….. WAIT A GODDAMN SECOND!!! I’M IN LOVE!?!”
Also, Shen you sneaky boi~ he’s giving the chaotic energy of like a matchmaking uncle… wait I don’t think that’s quite right? But You get what I mean though? Shen was all like…
“Damn these kids are into each other and doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it???? ….fine then, perhaps a little jealousy is just the medicine they need to get started..” 😈
It may be a good push, but i'm sure Xu dog still hate the fact that he have to fix Shen intestines
Tipsy Tonic
Destined One x OC Jen
(Prompt - Drunk)
The snake struck, fangs missing by mere inches. In the split second before it could recover, Monkey swung his staff down on the serpent’s skull. With a final hiss, it collapsed and tumbled off the wood path to the murky waters below.
“Ah ha! Well done, my young friend!” a voice called above him. From the tree dropped another monkey demon, shorter and with darker fur. He chuckled and stumbled in place while he found his footing; Monkey could smell the wine on his breath from a staff’s length away. “You gave him quite the drubbing! Serves them right, I say, picking on old Shen like they do.”
Monkey didn’t answer, giving Shen a quick nod before checking back down the path. The human, Jen, was still where he left her, barely visible behind the cover of the distant archway.
Shen followed the concerned glance curiously. “Oooh, what’s that?” He darted past Monkey, moving faster than the drunkard had any right to. He stopped just before the woman and knelt down by her slumped form. She flinched a bit at the sudden demon but didn’t scream or try to flee. “A human! On the mountain? Haven’t seen any of them around here for ages.”
The desire to knocked the stranger away from his charge was overwhelming and barely restrained. While Monkey wasn’t enthused by the Keeper’s orders to protect the human, he still planned to keep his word. He hovered just behind Shen, ready to act the moment the other monkey’s interest turned less innocent.
“She doesn’t look so good,” Shen murmured, touching a hand to Jen’s cheek. At Monkey’s warning growl, he glanced up with a smirk. “Peace, young friend. Your human here has a slight fever. Let me guess; run in with a fungus?”
A shudder ran down Monkey’s spine at the memory. The plant demon springing to life and charging towards, fast and strong and barely feeling the weight of his staff. It took numerous strikes and several close calls before the living fungus was finally defeated.
Shen laughed at Monkey’s weary nod. “They’re a nasty lot. Got a dose of poison in their pollen to get you even after they’re down. Doesn’t do much for us demons, but for humans? Can have them sick for days.”
Monkey glanced to Jen with a tight frown. What he brushed off as dramatics and unintelligible complaints from the human suddenly seemed much more serious. The chills from before had turn to full shivers. Her face was pale with beads of sweat along her brow and neck. And her eyes were fever dazed, glancing between Monkey and Shen in confusion. The sting of guilt overcame Monkey, faced with his failure to protect or care.
“Fear not!” Shen stood and patted his shoulder in reassurance. “I have just the remedy in my cave. Snake gall steeped in drink makes a fine tonic to flush malady and lucky for you, I have a fresh brew ready to try. Come, bring your friend and be my guests for the evening.”
Monkey watched him stumbled back down the wooden path, leading the way to his lair. It could be a trap or a chance to heal the sick human. He glanced down, finding Jen’s eyes on him, bleary but still full of trust. She murmured something he couldn’t understand but it sounded apologetic. The tone of it sent another remorseful flinch through him. He had already failed to protect her and couldn’t sit by and let her suffer anymore for his mistakes.
After a moment, he sighed and reached down to help Jen up. She swayed on her feet, leaning heavily against Monkey as they followed after Shen at a slow, teetering pace.
“Here, here, young friend,” Shen ushered them inside. “I found something soft for her to rest on. It’s nothing fancy but it’ll do for the night.”
The cave was mostly bare; a few torches, some rugs, and dozens of wine jugs scattered around in various stages of brewing. A few pelts and blankets had been laid out against the far wall. Slow and steady, Monkey helped Jen over and sat her down on the soft bedding, wrapping one of the furs around her trembling shoulders.
“This should do the trick,” Shen said, strolling across the cave. A small gourd was handed over to Monkey with a wink. “Few sips of this and your little miss should be right as rain.”
He gave the calabash a curious shake and uncorked it for a sniff. Wine, sweet and strong, and barely more than a few mouthfuls by the sound of it. Kneeling down, Monkey placed the drink in Jen’s hands. It took a moment for her eyes to blink the object into focus. When she looked to Monkey in confusion, he nodded his head encouragingly and pushed the gourd closer.
The first sip was slow and hesitant followed by a surprised cough. Monkey patted her back in sympathy while she caught her breath. Once the initial burn of the alcohol passed, Jen perked up at the sweet taste and finished the wine off with a second gulp.
She looked better already. Her shivering settled and color returned to her cheeks. Blinking once, twice, Jen hiccupped then broke into a fit of giggles, gourd slipping from her fumbling fingers. When she swayed off balance, Monkey quickly caught her and kept her slumped form tucked against his side. He looked between the mirthful human and Shen, head tilted in confusion and worry.
“Not to worry, just the wine kicking in,” the other monkey explained with a laugh. He snatched up the empty gourd and set it aside, grabbing a much larger and fuller gourd from his hoard. “One sip makes you tipsy, many sips make you hammered. She’ll sleep it off just fine and feel better in the morning, give or take a headache. Better than being poisoned, though.”
Shen took a seat across from them, sipping at his own gourd before pointing at Monkey. “I’d stake your one more monkey from Mount Huaguo?” A hesitant nod confirmed his guess. “I thought so. I’ve met many of you before. Though, you’re the first I’ve seen in the company of a human. Speaking of which…”
His eyes turned sharp and sober, faintly glowing in the torchlight. “You must be more careful, young friend. This mountain is dangerous enough for the likes of us, not to mention the wilds that lie beyond. Humans are mortal and delicate creatures; one small mistake can mean certain death. Today was just a fungus demon, but tomorrow? The poison may not be mild; the blow, more fatal. If you plan to keep this human miss safe, you must be more diligent.”
The warning settled over Monkey, chilling his spine and bristling his fur. He glanced down, finding Jen half asleep against his side. Her fever was cooled, her breathing less labored, and he could sigh in relief. Giving her a gentle squeeze, Monkey looked back to Shen with an understanding nod.
“Good, glad we’re in agreement. Now,” he smirked, offered the half-drunk wine jug. “How about I show you some of my wares to help you on your journey?”
