-Guren looked down at the matts. that he had been training on for the past hour, looking disappointed. "You are doing it all wrong....still," Guren said flatly, to the girl at his feet. He sighed, as he scratched the back of his head.

Guren's Steele

-Guren refuses to let anyone use his Stele, like other Shadowhunters sometimes due. And that is for one simple reason. His father gave it to him.

-If he finds you messing with it, he will roundhouse kick to the face.

So I've decided I like the idea of Jem being like "you know, it's like when you were six and got your first dagger" and Tessa and Will, who had normal childhoods, just looking at him and going "your experiences were not universal"

(Likewise also the idea of Jem and Tessa being like "or you could NOT throw yourself off bridges because 'its the quickest route' and because 'you survived the last time you did it' you stone-cold weirdo" and Tessa referring to weird American things like they're normal, or insisting on attempting to do active fighting things despite the fact that she's WEARING A WEDDING DRESS) 

“Maybe I can help you out with that.” Striding over to him, she gently took the bow from the taller man and appraised it for a long moment before making a few adjustments to the arrow rest and grip. Satisfied with her work, she softly slipped the weapon back into his hand and smiled up at him. “Take it for a test shot. See how much better the arrow glides now.”

     This was no football, but all sports had some element of similarity. Julian grabbed the bow without a single word, tugged the arrow taut, aimed, and released. It soared through the air and landed in the center of the bullseye.

       “Thanks,” he muttered under his breath, only mildly annoyed he had required help.
