it has been a while since i read spamtonhater, all that may have been more subtext or just a possible interpretation, i don't remember. but there was a fic i read based on sh1997 that had battat coughing up friend goop like hanahaki, triggered by their self-hate. like friend heard their thoughts like they were calling for it to appear. it was so cool.

spamtonhater1997 has a kinder version of friend, the battat torture there is just what they do to themself and the problems in their own head. but the friendpins possession there fucks me up because it's like, there's someone who's better at pretending to be you than you are. someone who says all the right things at all the right moments, who has better eating and sleeping habits, who is just better* than you in every way. and then battat has to come back and be the worse version of themself. it's like the opposite of an evil clone.

but the thing is, friend and battat are actually very similar people! and one of the biggest ways is that neither of them actually feel like a real person. that they're both just pretending to be a person. the parallels, man, it messes me up.

and then, one of the spamtonhater finales i can't remember which season it was, the black square friend posts said something like, “at first, i didn't think anyone else would get it. for a while it was because i didn't think there was anything to get. but now...” “...i'm not alone anymore.” and i don't think i ever emotionally recovered from that. like fuuuuuuck.

but yeah that's basically how i view friendpins possession. i mean i like almost all friendpins interpretations but this is my personal favorite, where battat made the deal so they wouldn't have to be themself for a little while, but it actually made it even harder on them by emphasizing all the things they're bad at and hate about themself. like maybe when making the deal they wanted friend to fuck up their life, as a form of self harm, but then it didn't do that. or maybe when making the deal they were thinking “would anyone even notice anything different? or could i just... disappear, and everything would continue just fine without me?” my battat has a deep-seated self hate. and identity issues. and a bit of suicidal tendencies. and friend is fascinated by battat. it is excited at battat giving it the opportunity to live a day in their life, a deal it just couldn't say no to. and sure it fucks some things up and is very friendly in a way that is incredibly off-putting to anyone who knows battat, but in battat's eyes? friend is doing everything right in a way that they never could.

i really love friendpins. and friendpins possession in particular. just wanted to share my thoughts on it.
