SETNE YOU XYLOPHONE FUCK
Okay, So for all the Kane chronicle Fans…
Here are some Things I wanna ask.
Why do you Think Rick never used figures other besides Setne from Egyptian Mythology?
Specifically
-Sinhue
-Setne’s brother in His tale: Inaros
- The Doomed Prince
-Possibly Anubis’ brother in The Tale “A story of two brothers”
Bata
But eh. Good thing he wouldn’t know LOL.
The Kane Chronicles and Percy Jackson crossover actually works pretty well, if only because of Setne. I think Setne as a villian makes those stories work. His gaudy fashion sense, his weird gangster wannabe aethestic, even his plan to absorb all the gods from all the religions and take their power is clever. At least, that was what I think the plan was. I read it yesterday and may have forgotten some things. In any case, he makes the story actually fun to read. He's just a charmingly evil man. He's hilarious, on top of all that. So it all works.
It's a crime these two were never in a book together.
I know in my heart that Setne would address every Norse god as "kiddo" if he thought he could get away with it.

"Where are we?" I asked. Loki polished his medals with his coat sleeve. "Well, neither of us is here, of course. I'm still tied up on a stone slab with snake poison dripping in my face. You're dying on the banks of a river in Jotunheim."
Gods, I love Loki in these books. The best villian since Set or Setne in the Kane Chronicles, I think. Seriously, why is it that Rick Riordan's side books get all the funniest villians!? And before you ask: I am aware Apophis is the villian of the Kane Chronicles. Apophis is probably my favourite of Rick Riordan's big bads, because I love the themes of order vs chaos. But Loki, Set and Setne are all hilarious villians.
Honestly, I think Set and Loki might as well just be the same person. They're written in the exact same way; as maniacs with a bold sense of humour (yet who get frequently underestimated because of their humour). They're cunning, they're silly, they're charming, they're the epitome of perfection for a villian. I love both of them so much. Although I must say: there's a reason I prefer Loki in Marvel Comics to speak in Old, Shakespearean English. It's not just because it matches the vibes of Thor's comics, but also because it helps differentiate those comics from these books. I like having two incredibly entertaining versions of Loki, and I enjoy having them be similar yet different.
Setne is an amazing villian. Continuing Rick Riordan's streak of writing amazing villians in his books (like Loki or Set), Setne is weird and funny and an all around great villian. This weird ancient egyptian gangster ghost who holds the key to defeating the big villian in Apophis. He's a fun character, just like a lot of Rick Riordan's villians. And I appreciate all his scenes in The Serpent's Shadow.
