The thing which makes the Kane Chronicles unique from the rest of the Riordanverse is the trauma and sufferings the characters go through. And no, it's not the sufferings of Carter and Sadie. In tkc, being a side character is way more lethal. Bast spent thousands of years in a prison, forced to fight the reptilian embodiment of chaos itself who was much much stronger than her (physically). Zia was replaced by a clay model of her, while being stuck in a literal coffin underwater. Amos was possessed by an evil, chaos God and had to watch helplessly as his family was either killed or lured to death. Walt's entire arc is that he's slowly dying and he can't do anything about it. Like put down the main characters for a second. The secondary ones need HELP!

i love that canonically bast always has her hair in a slick-back ponytail bc it often gets all spiky like a cat's fur when she doesn't like something, and otherwise her whole head would look like a pufferfish
