Mars below the horizon is preferable for calm power, especially when it is in Scorpio or Pisces. Such a Mars will be naturally balanced: its hot and dry nature will be moistened and cooled by the Water signs. Mars in other signs retains more of its malefic nature, especially in a day chart. But the real power of Mars is crucial: it is the ability to be the subject of action rather than its object, to take an active role in life. This aspect is difficult because, in the better case, people may choose activity exactly when it is time to relax, and relax exactly when the work is on fire. The inner shift manager is drunk, and both departments blame each other

In any Venus-Mars aspect, as Ptolemy, Valens and Maternus noted, people may be more sexually active. The tighter the orb between the planets, the stronger the lust, for the native’s good or evil depending on the rest of the chart

Both masculine and feminine principles may be mixed within one chart. The rulers of the 1st and 12th in an applying conjunction show a lack of will in the better case; in the worse one, they rarely get a real chance at independence and freedom

In my practice, one native with the rulers of the 1st and 8th joined in the 8th became involved in a notorious fatal case during a psychotic episode. A high-profile case

Moon in the 12th almost always means problems in the mental sphere. Don’t romanticize it or treat it like, “Oh! Such a mystical Moon.” I have it on the Ascendant from the 12th-house side, and I have to say that I feel like a lunatic living in Narnia and Silent Hill at the same time

Weak essential dignity of the personal significators means a clear lack of vital power, an inability to assert oneself, and a lack of self-understanding

Closed dispositor loops are among the most difficult life scenarios, where people live like hamsters on a wheel. They never stop and are never satisfied. Their life goals are like a carrot dangling in front of their nose, almost caught, but never reached In real nightmare cases - rulers of this houses is malefics in fall or exile

Sometimes everyone thinks, “Oh, my love life always comes with some challenge,” or “Why do I have only problem-guys around me?” Others try to teach the less lucky ones: “Just change your mindset.” That New Age slop mixed with cognitive methods has burned me out many times. Sometimes it is better to accept a little bitterness and think about what we can actually do with this material of destiny, social impact and predestination

Remembering the Hermetic maxim “as above, so below,” we may see some patterns in the natal chart that make matters of love more or less complicated, glitter them up, cover them in mist, or immerse them in traumatic turmoil

Ancient astrologers often treated the 6th, 12th and 8th as particularly difficult houses. Whether the 2nd or the 4th should also be considered weakened has been dragged through endless discussion for ages, but that is not as important here as this little trio of malediction

Evidently, the Hellenes tell us that open and obvious toxic lads may manifest through the 6th house. It is the house of little bastards trying to spoil your party. But what happens when the ruler of the 5th or 7th is placed here? Friends of mine with such signatures often suffer from prejudice and frustration in romantic matters, struggle to find a decent and fair lad, or repeatedly meet self-absorbed, manipulative or simply chaotic guys with all the consequences that follow

Another version of the ruler of the 7th in the 6th is a very complicated and ritualised daily routine with a partner. “Who took my razor?” “Who left this trash here?” and so on. Domestic life is not necessarily impossible, but it may become as complicated and exhausting as a folk market square at noon: no discounts, crowd dynamics and harsh judgments included

If the ruler of the 5th or 7th is conjunct, square or opposite the ruler of the 6th, there may be a route toward problems that are tolerated and sometimes even visibly desired. Some lads want a partner symbolised by the 6th-house ruler to treat them like a butler or housemaid. Others overload themselves with endless “little quests,” and sometimes a native with such a configuration sees some kind of servitude as something that must be performed to prove the right to remain in the relationship. I have talked about the 12th in general before, but here partners, even when they exist, may look like ghosts, beggars or marginals of various kinds. It is like a nightmare filmed on a shitty low-quality camera, where you play an endless quest to find “the one true love”

Sometimes we see the inverted picture, where dirty lads become surprisingly decent ones if the ruler of the 12th goes to the 7th and receives support from Venus or Jupiter. Without such support, they may simply be trashmen who do not even bother hiding their imperfections. Things become especially messy when the 12th-house ruler is one of the trans-Saturnian planets

With the ruler of the 5th in the 12th, people may have secret romances or prefer unconventional kinks and fetishes. In other cases, love and desire may be connected with distant places, strangers or people who live somewhere in the astrological category of “who-the-fuck-knows-how-far-away”

Now, the 8th

It is difficult by default because it is in aversion to the Ascendant, and in this symbolic logic it lies outside the native’s direct field of control

The 8th represents death, debts and the partner’s resources. In some traditional interpretations it may also describe compulsive sexuality and other high-risk entanglements, including dubious religious circles, criminal environments and other places where nobody hands you a clean receipt afterward

I don’t romanticise this death pit. It is a bank that wants your whole soul for one coin of debt

So when the ruler of the 5th is there, traditional sources may connect it with loss in matters of love or complications around children and childbirth. In romantic questions it may also point toward materially motivated partners, while in better manifestations it describes shared resources and financial interdependence within the couple. Sometimes it may also coincide with hidden or heavily stigmatised sexual interests, or attraction toward sex workers, criminal environments or other socially marginalised people

If the ruler of the 7th is in the 8th, it may show a partner who has their own property and may eventually leave some possessions or inheritance to the native. If the ruler of the 7th is afflicted or weak by dignity, traditional judgment may instead emphasise loss, instability in shared resources, or the collapse of mutual plans

These are unlucky configurations, but a chart can only be judged after all the relevant parameters have been analysed, compared and integrated into the actual life of the native

None of these placements alone can promise dramatic results in romance or partnership. The key lies in aspects, other rulers, planetary condition and the native’s real background

A natal chart is one grand alchemical recipe for living this life

And there is no fucking shortcut to living happily without ever being forced to taste something bitter

Let’s agree from the beginning that the trans-Saturnian planets are not beacons, cosmic babysitters or elegant angels sent to improve your personality. They symbolize forces far greater than one individual can contain, control or fully understand, which is why their contacts in synastry often feel less like a pleasant conversation and more like discovering that the architecture of the relationship has quietly changed overnight

In modern astrology, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are sometimes treated as semi-malefic planets, and in synastry this description may work surprisingly well. I use an orb of no more than three degrees for them, because distant planets already create enough confusion without inviting half the chart into their private investigation. What follows is a collection of my observations from synastry charts and long-term relationships

Uranus is the shock-lad

In natal charts Uranus may symbolize invention, disruption and sudden freedom, but every invention needs some cleared ground beneath it. Uranus tends to destabilize the ordinary function of any planet it touches, especially through a square or opposition, removing familiar protections and refusing to respect old rules simply because both people became comfortable with them

When Uranus forms a trine to another person’s planet, it may create an open road where that planetary principle becomes difficult to measure, restrict or contain. This can work productively with Jupiter or Saturn, but contacts to the Sun or Moon may leave one partner unusually exposed, as if their usual emotional walls were removed while Uranus called the whole process liberation

A sextile from Uranus to Mars or Venus may encourage very quick decisions about attraction, intimacy and relationship rules. Ordinary ideas of what is reasonable can suddenly look boring, while both people place a radical and idealistic lens over their behaviour. It feels revolutionary until somebody remembers that freedom still requires boundaries, agreements and at least one functioning calendar

Neptune is a real problem in natal charts and synastry

It is far less soft and moonlit than people like to imagine. Neptune is the Bermuda Triangle where goals, direction and clear decisions disappear, while everybody involved keeps insisting that the fog is a spiritual atmosphere. Neptune affecting Saturn is especially difficult because structure begins to dissolve, promises become vague and responsibility turns into something everybody feels but nobody can locate

With the Sun or Moon, Neptune may immerse the relationship in projection, idealization and complicated emotional confusion. Squares or oppositions between Neptune and the luminaries are not an automatic order to end the relationship, but they are a serious point of attention, especially when one person keeps falling in love with an image while the real partner stands nearby wondering when they will finally be noticed

Contacts from Neptune to Venus or Mars may turn the relationship into a dreamlike story full of tenderness, fantasy and beautiful projection. In more difficult cases, however, the connection rests on imaginary foundations that begin to fade as soon as the first serious Saturn or Mars transit enters the house and asks everybody to explain what exactly they agreed to

Pluto is the most demanding player in this deck

Pluto may bind people through finances, responsibility, shared crises, deep loyalty or complicated questions of control. Sometimes an obligation becomes the reason a relationship continues, though such an obligation is not always financial. One person may rescue the other, transform their direction in life or remain beside them during a catastrophic period, and this may seal the connection for years because emotional accounting has no simple bankruptcy procedure

On its lower spectrum, Pluto brings manipulation, fear, pressure and exhausting struggles over control. On the other hand, Pluto aspecting the Sun may awaken enormous vitality in the Sun person, revealing strength that might otherwise remain buried. Contacts with the Moon, especially squares, may produce emotional turmoil and make private vulnerabilities feel painfully visible

With Venus or Mars, Pluto intensifies attraction and releases desires that were previously hidden or carefully civilized. This can deepen intimacy and create powerful transformation, but it may also expose both people to experiences they were not emotionally prepared to understand. Transformation is not automatically healing simply because somebody placed Pluto’s name over the ruins

Pluto with Jupiter brings expansion, excess and the desire for more, but tense aspects may create a hunger that remains unsatisfied regardless of how much success, attention, knowledge or emotional influence enters the relationship. Pluto with Saturn may overload one partner with duties and exhaust them, especially through squares, until the relationship begins to resemble a factory where love has been promoted to unpaid management
