My first sourdough bread!
8 days ago I started making a sourdough starter from flour and water, feeding it every day until today I finally baked my first loaf. I even scored a Hyrule crest and Triforce on it so I could proudly show it here today.
And… TADA!!
🎉 Failed 🎉
The bread turned out hard as a rock, I’ll give it to my chickens tomorrow.
It was still a really fun experience.
Okay, this is Attempt #4!
I've been reading books and watching YouTube videos, and a lot of people say they do their bulk fermentation for up to 4 hours, depending on their room temperature, or until the dough doubles in size.
I tried 4 hours in Attempts #2 and #3, and it didn't work, my dough barely rose.
So for Attempt #4, I decided to ignore the clock and just wait until the dough actually doubled in size. And it took 17 hours (from 1 PM until 6 AM the next day)!
I honestly have no idea why it took so long. Maybe my starter is still very young? Maybe my room temperature is too cold? I really don't know.
But I was so happy when I woke up and saw that the dough had finally come alive overnight, like Pinocchio becoming a real boy lol! (when I checked it around midnight, it had only grown about 10%. Then five hours later, it suddenly looked like it was actually breathing.)
I got excited and scored it with a Link design as a charm. My original idea was to give Link a sword slash as the deep score, but I was afraid I'd mess up the drawing, so I ended up going with a simpler design instead.
Then I baked it for 1 hour at 200-210°C, with high hopes that this attempt would finally succeed, and the result was…
I baked carrot cake today. I decorated slices of this cake like in Zelda Botw/Totk.😃 Food cosplay?
The color is browner because I used light brown sugar. Mixed the cake batter with carrots (of course), raisins, walnuts, and cinnamon powder. Cheese cream frosting! Tastes delicious! I'm so happy!
