Sengoku/Kirihara , 8
Sengoku was tired of having good-looking roommates. Whether they were male or female, if he was physically attracted to someone, he was going to build a relationship with them. There were always problems with that. Fighting over who kept the apartment, how they split shared possessions and, even once, who kept the cat (it was the only time Sengoku cried after he broke up with someone. He loved that cat, damn it! Charlie had been his son!).
So, when Sengoku went roommate shopping on Craigslist, he searched for the nerdiest person possible. He wanted a shut-in: someone who would only escape from their room for food, water, and a walk around the park every Saturday at 2.
After a few weeks of searching, he found the perfect one.
Name: Kirihara AkayaAge: 21Sex: MaleHobbies: Video games, tennis on weekendsOther: We don’t need to meet. Just pay the rent, keep quiet, and we’ll get along.
Kirihara needed a subleaser until the end of October, when the lease was up. Resigning for both parties was a possibility.
It was as if the gods were sending Sengoku a sign. This is your destined roommate! You will not fall in love or sleep with this person. It was perfect.
——————————————————————————————————-
He should have found a studio apartment.
For the first month of living in his new place, Sengoku never saw his roommate. He heard his roommate shuffling around his room from time to time, mostly at night to get food, but never a face to face meeting.
Honestly? It’s what Sengoku was expecting. It didn’t bother him, especially since his roommate never touched Sengoku’s food. They were living in harmony with one another.
Until that fated day: September 25th. Sengoku knew it well.
Sengoku had been in the kitchen, eating breakfast, when his roommate magically appeared. The boy was practically naked, wearing underwear that was a size too small and barely covered his bottom. His hair looked like he hadn’t brushed it for weeks and there were bags under his eyes either from sleep deprivation or…..well, Sengoku didn’t want to think of what else.
Still, the kid’s body was in shape, and Sengoku was caught staring.
"Fuck off," Kirihara said. "I can do whatever the fuck I want." He grabbed a beer from the fridge and opened it by using the side of the counter. "It’s my fucking birthday, after all."
——————————————————————————————————-
Sengoku didn’t start falling for Kirihara because his body was amazing (Sengoku had in the past, and it was a recipe for disaster). It was because he made more of an effort to try and talk to his roommate as November drew nearer.
It mostly involved Sengoku sitting in the living room at odd hours of the night and catching Kirihara’s attention for a few minutes. He learned a few things about the seaweed headed boy.
One, Kirihara hated pants. If he had to wear something, tennis or basketball shorts were his go to. Two, he worked for a graphic design company, so he could work from home. He didn’t like loud environments because he couldn’t concentrate. Three, he sucked at English. Four, carrots frightened him and were banned from the apartment.
Kirihara was quirky and sometimes violent (he had thrown an entire bag of vegetables out the window because the bag wouldn’t open. Part of their deposit was taken to fix the window, and it had been awkward to explain how the window had broke), but he was a good kid.
A really, really good kid, and Sengoku didn’t want to destroy the relationship he was building with Kirihara. He didn’t want to scare him away talking about feelings and love when a simple change in wording could send Kirihara scurrying back to his room.
——————————————————————————————————-
When time came around for resign, Sengoku went ahead and signed the lease for another year. He had no idea what Kirihara was doing. He didn’t know how to bring up the subject to the younger boy. Didn’t want to scare him.
On October 31st, the apartment was filled with noise. Kirihara’s tennis friends had come over. Together, they were moving out all of Kirihara’s old furniture piece by piece.
He should have known this would happen. Kirihara would eventually move and their friendship, if you could call it that, would disappear.
When Kirihara and his things were gone, everything was quiet. Too quiet.
Sengoku went to sleep dreaming of his roommate’s voice.
——————————————————————————————————-
November 1st, Sengoku was woken by loud cursing and yelling by voices he could only recognize as Kirihara’s friends from yesterday.
He watched, from the living room, as the team of boys moved in new furniture and helped their friend rearrange everything to fit.
"I thought you were leaving," Sengoku said once Kirihara’s friends left.
"Nah," Kirihara said. "Got a pay raise and decided I needed new stuff. And it was fucking Halloween. Niou got me drunk as shit, and I crashed and his and Yagyuu’s place last night. I wasn’t gunna fucking leave cause, well," his voice because quieter and he scratched the back of his head, "you’re the first dude I actually like."
"Aww, that’s cute," Sengoku said. "You’ve got a crush on me."
W-what? No!” Kirihara shouted. “That’s not what I meant. I mean I like you as a roommate.”
"Sure you do." Sengoku began to sing. "Kiyosumi and Akaya sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-"
Kirihara stormed out of the kitchen and locked himself in his room. Sengoku didn’t hear from him for four days, but he prided himself in being the cause of Kirihara’s face-filling blush that day.
Sengoku: ▼ and ♡
♥ - family headcanon
I like to imagine that his older sister was significantly older (like five to eight years) and she always had friends over and “tortured” him during that time. Like, making fun of him or making him be the guinea pig for their make overs, but Sengoku didn’t really care cause he had a massive crush on one of them. So he’d let his sister do whatever she wanted as long as that girl was around (of course his sister knew cause he was not always the young, suave Sengoku we know and love) And he was devastated when he found out she was in a serious relationship. It broke his poor little heart! But his sister isn’t completely heartless and started hanging out at her friend’s house to ease his pain and taught him all of the things girls like and don’t like in guys. So, by the time he got to the end of middle school, he could romance a girl like there’s no tomorrow. Sengoku and his sister still have a good solid relationship ;)
♡ - romantic headcanon
I’m kinda gunna go for a broad romantic headcannon here.
Sengoku, as we all know, is a true romantic, girl obsessed guy (who just can’t get lucky in middle school…..of course, BECAUSE HE’S A MIDDLE SCHOOLER). Anyways, Sengoku has always been the type of guy who can admire any physical form, but he only voices his opinions of women. In high school, he finally gets his first girlfriend, and he swears this is the relationship for him. This is who he’s gunna marry (typical high school relationship BS) but…..he starts noticing guys more. Like, oh my gosh I might be attracted to that guy. And he has a mini freakout. Overcompensates for his sexuality because DAMNIT middle school did not prepare him for this at all! They only explained heterosexuality there! By the time university rolls around, he accepts the fact that he’s attracted to both guys and girls and has his first boyfriend. Ultimately, he does marry a woman (BECAUSE LITTLE SENGOKU’S RUNNING AROUND MUST HAPPEN DAMN IT) but not before he’s corrupted a few male souls ;)
I don't know why but I feel like Sengoku would be an amazing cook
(I seriously just started head cannoning the Hell’s Kitchen story halfway through….whoops)
Like, 100% serious, I think when he gets older he realizes he needs something to get into a person’s heart besides his amazing good looks and flirtatiousness. So he takes up cooking to win over his love’s stomach (cause anyone that enjoys good food loves it when their significant other cooks for them ESPECIALLY when its hella good food).
Sengoku isn’t good at first, but with a little practice he becomes a stronger chef. Like, we’re talking good enough to create a menu and start up his own business good. But Sengoku doesn’t do it because you need money to start a restaurant and money is something a poor college student (fresh out of school) doesn’t have.
So his friends convince him to send in an audition video for Hell’s Kitchen…..AND HE GETS IN. It’s there that he meets Kirihara (who had little to no cooking experience and he’s just doing this for shits and giggles cause he thought it’d be fun). Kinda love at first sight for the pair of them, but Kirihara doesn’t want to be one of those trashy tv romances that don’t work out so he doesn’t let Sengoku pursue anything while they’re taping.
Of course this leads to massive amounts of flirting on Sengoku’s part: both at Kirihara and Gordon Ramsey. Kirihara cause DAMN THAT BOY IS FINE and Gordon because why the hell not? It does make the host slightly uncomfortable, but it’s all of the laughs afterwards and to worm his way into the audience’s heart once the show airs.
Sengoku stands out as a top competitor from the beginning because 1. he’s an amazing chef and 2. he doesn’t crack under pressure. Kirihara proves to be an incredibly quick learner and the two’s teamwork proves to be top notch in the competition (knocking out most, if not all, of the competitors before Kirihara is nearly eliminated from the show but he manages to stay in by a hair).
It ends up it comes down to Kirihara and Sengoku in the finals. Sengoku has wanted this from the beginning, but Kirihara has come to love cooking throughout the taping of Hell’s Kitchen. But only one can win the show. Before Ramsey can announce the winner, Kirihara drops out, saying that no matter what he wants now, he’d never want it as much as Sengoku. Ramsey is disappointed, but he crowns Sengoku as the winner (he had actually chosen Kirihara as the winner).
After a few years of working in one of Ramsey’s restaurants, Sengoku has enough money saved to open one of his own restaurants. He puts in his two week notice, packs his bags, and finds a nice spot to build his place. The person he calls up as his sous chef is none other than Kirihara, and, as the final line, the brat accepts the job.
Kirihara introducing Sengoku to the troika/ the troika introducing themselves to Sengoku
There were few times in his life Sengoku had felt completely and utterly confused. The only time that came to mind was the first time he saw Kirihara (because he didn’t understand how he could be attracted to a man when he had spent a better part of his youth chasing girls).
Now…..he wasn’t entirely sure what was happening. He had spent a better part of the hour sitting in front of the legendary Rikkaidai Demon Trio as the three whispered to each other. The trio hadn’t said a word to him
"Guys," Sengoku said.
The three demons stopped talking to one another and looked up at Sengoku.
"I need to be home for dinner soon," Sengoku said.
"Ah, yes, I apologize," Yukimura said. "We didn’t mean to keep you for so long. We didn’t know how to….proceed with the introductions."
"Ah, I, um, know who the three of you are?" Sengoku said.
And who didn’t know of the Rikkaidai Demon Trio? They were, in all possibility, the three most gifted tennis players in the high school circuit.
"Is there anything else you wanted to talk to me about?" Sengoku asked.
Sanada coughed. He was quite red for the silent and strong vice-captain he was supposed to be. “Well, you see, when two…two men love each other very much, they-“
Sengoku stifled his laughter. Oh god, they had planned to give him the sex talk as well?
"You can stop, Sanada-kun," Sengoku said. "I’m knowledgeable about the birds and the bees."
Sanada breathed a sigh of relief. It was likely he had been strong armed into the most difficult part of their conversation.
"Is there anything else you wanted to ask me that doesn’t involve names, sex, and anything else I might deem creepy?" Sengoku asked.
The Demon Trio exchanged glances.
"There is a seventy-eight percent chance this statement will be interpreted as over-protective, but," Yanagi said, "we want to make sure you’re treating Akaya right."
Finally, finally something normal.
"I’d never hurt the kid, if that’s what you’re asking," Sengoku said. "I love him a lot, and I’d never do anything to intentionally break his heart."
The trio seemed to nod collectively, accepting the answer Sengoku had given.
When it came down to it, the Demon Trio were just parents protecting their child.
And Sengoku was damn happy he didn’t meet the rest of Kirihara’s team.

SenKiri- Lifeguard AU
Kirihara had felt eyes on him, and it wasn’t his teammates or that pretty girl at towel number five (number 5 only because she was the fifth person from the right), it was the damn lifeguard.
He was pretty attractive though, red hair and pretty green eyes hidden behind a pair of aviators (not to mention the guy looked ripped under his tank top), and Kirihara knew he had to make a lasting impression.
He took a running start on the pale concrete and yelled, “CANNONBALL!”…..right beside the lifeguard’s seat.
how upset would sengoku be if akaya straightened his hair
See, funny story! Sengoku told me of the one time Kirihara had his hair straightened by another person.
Apparently (and this is all from word of mouth), the Rikkai regulars straightened Kirihara’s hair because he was:
1. Late for the bus to go to their match2. Gave up two sets to the opponents (he still won 6-2)3. Slept through the rest of the matches
So they straightened his hair as punishment since Kirihara had very excitedly told them Sengoku was coming over for the weekend.
When Kirihara got home, well, Sengoku was already there, and he didn’t recognize our favorite seaweed head! It took Kirihara shouting and threatening to kill him for Sengoku to recognize his boy.
So, in short, it doesn’t really upset him. It more startles him (especially with Kirihara’s hair straightened) because Sengoku can’t see his pretty eyes.
It had made for some….interesting new hairstyles on Kirihara’s part ;)
