Steve has great plans for Christmas.
They might involve lying to his very fatherly neighbour and telling him he's going to see his parents, but he's determined to decompress, watch The Holiday on repeat and pretend his loneliness isn't an unwanted guest.
When Wayne worries about Steve's cat being alone during his family visit and proposes his nephew, about to move into town, as a sitter, Steve doesn't know how to say no and instead elaborates a scheme to get rid of the kind help by leaving a note on his front door to say his plans have changed.
It's not like lying will hinder communication, right?
His gym bag slowly slips from his shoulder and it's only when the soft thump of it barely makes it to his ears over the music that Steve unfreezes and bluntly asks "Who the hell are you?!"
The man turns around, spooked, and holds the cat more firmly, almost protectively. He looks Steve up and down for a couple of long seconds, blushes and then warily goes "The… cat-sitter?"
