I have discovered that brushing my hair throughout the day has a calming and soothing effect.
The little things, you know?
Therapy looks. My hair was so nice today, so soft. I left group feeling SO SAD today, I'm not sure why, I hope I'm not sponging up other members emotions again. I was given the advice to try more self soothing skills, which is hard for me. Group is quite uncomfortable in general at the moment.
Anxiety: Not an inevitability
A thing I learned this week: enduring anxiety all the time is not the same as exposure therapy. Self care/ self soothing is not avoidance if you go do it and then come back to the Thing. You can cope in advance if you know a Thing will be hard by self soothing beforehand. Functional adults self sooth all the time as a matter of course, but its okay if you have to learn it from scratch.
And here I thought I had to be a stoic and just bear the stress of it until I collapsed and maybe it would get better somehow. Smh

Armed with their mighty trinket charm bracelet, they never have to think beyond their trivial causes. They use their trinkets to pivot debate. You bring up a priority and they shake their wrists at you at you saying “yeah, but what about this?!” pointing to one of their misplaced token priorities. Trinketing is a form of threat displacement: Rather than facing a formidable threat, you dissociate and self-sooth by obsessing about some more manageable threat. Rather than facing your own complicity, you project it on to others. They’re the real criminals. Lock. Them. Up!

Coping strategies
I need to start working on building up more healthy coping habits. So I'm making a list like I used to have of self soothing and fun things to do. If you guys have any suggestions please message me with them. I want to make a really long list I can hang up on my wall.
