Bonus: Breq, circa Ancillary Justice

I wanted to refresh my memory of the last few chapters of the series (best part of rereading! flipping back and forth to compare scenes), so I borrowed the ebook of Ancillary Mercy and I am struck by the difference in how Breq expresses her love, for Lieutenant Awn in book one and Seivarden by the end of book three. For Lieutenant Awn Breq felt such adoration and loyalty that she kind of went crazy, going off on a decades long revenge mission that could never end in any kind of meaningful victory.

But for Seivarden... their relationship in this series starts out fraught. Breq doesn't reveal her identity for a good while and she feels no sympathy for Seivarden's plight, out of time with no real place in society.

In the second to last chapter of Ancillary mercy, though, the casual physical intimacy?! 'I leaned against her, and she put her arms around me. No data from her, no connection to Ship that would give it to me, but it felt good anyway"

There isn't any kind romantic vibe to their relationship, and Breq never hesitates to admonish Seivarden for her less respectable qualities and behavior. But the casual physical affection DOES NOT LIE
