Arthur is reading submissions for a short story competition in which aspiring writers were challenged to pen original tales of the ghastly and ghoulish, the haunting and harrowing. While many of the entries are bogged down by lackluster prose and cheap sensationalism, a handful show genuine promise. A few standout pieces even send a prickle of gooseflesh down his arms—though, having developed an intimate rapport with certain horrors, he doesn’t rattle as easily as he once used to.
