I think Laika's always enjoyed firework shows. When he was growing up his uncle would always take him out to see them whenever they happened. He would always enjoy running around in whatever field they were in and then getting to sit down and watch the show. But when he got older both him and his uncle started being busier and they were unable to go to them together anymore. Laika never wanted to go alone so he just stopped going.

One day Searchman hears about a fireworks show happening for a holiday and he asks Laika if he has any interest in watching them. Laika declines, something about having too much work or how it's "not as fun without going with someone" (because he's too dense to realize searchman may have been asking so they could experience them together)

Searchman doesn't push further until the day of. It's pretty late and Laika is trying to finish a report before bed when Searchman asks him to join him at looking out the window (or mayhaps if they have a balcony they go there..) Laika, having forgotten all about the fireworks, is confused as hell, but Searchman doesn't ask him to do things so directly very often so he obliges

Searchman brings him over just as the show is starting and they're able to just watch from their dorm. Laika finally realizes why Searchman asked him to come stand with him (and maybe realize why he asked about the show in the first place) and they just. Watch. Every so often they glance at eachother and watch the look of awe in eachothers eyes at the pretty fireworks. They watch in silence the whole show, at some point they start leaning on eachother, but have no idea when that happened. Just that they were watching and then when it was over they were leaning on eachother like a couple (gee I wonder why)

They’re playing pvz on the bed and Searchman just dramatically rolls away with his back to Laika, mumbling, “Imagine being monstrous to our partners. Imagine not wanting to see our partners in our game…”

Laika, who is fed up with Searchman’s dumbassery, plays the beam shooter strat begrudgingly. Against all odds, he wins, and then he never hears the end of it.

“What did I tell you? We should really listen to our Net Navis. That’s what we’re here for. It’s the power of love!”

Laika, fully done with Searchman’s sappy ass, shuts him up with a kiss.

He's overly dramatic when he's pouty too, the way he acts when he rolls away and acts all neglected you'd think he's a kicked kitten and he makes sure Laika KNOWS it (it use to work like a charm to make Laika feel bad and he'd fold really easily because Searchman was NEVER like that until they got much closer, but now he knows when he's full of shit he just has to not fall for those pathetic kitty cat eyes)

SEARCHLAI PEA SHOOTERS

OH MY GOD IT'S LITERALLY THEM

In pvz fusion there’s one that’s a pea shooter + plantern and it makes a beam shooter that looks A LOT like the scope gun shot. If SearchLai played I bet Searchman would be sappy as heck when he discovered that combo and use it forevermore (LAIKA LOOK IT’S US WHEN WE DO CROSS FUSION). When Laika refuses to use it for his strategy he gets pouty ofc

I have never played Plants vs Zombies beyond a few levels at those restaurant tablet things (like the ones at olive garden) that have games on them

But i absolutely see searchman playing the games now it just makes so much sense it's a beautiful image in my head

I imagine this was their first experience of almost losing eachother

Sure, they've been on numerous other missions, but nothing as life threatening as this arc

before this, the worst injuries Searchman would have would be at most a missing arm, but that wouldnt be until the very end of the missions, it happened very rarely, so encountering an enemy that wiped out as many navis as he did with no effort, one that was able to get Searchman to the verge of deletion multiple times

That scared Laika

I think initially, neither of them were scared, cause their rage towards the situation overpowered whatever fear they could have had. It wasn't a matter of "i can't believe there a threat this big" but more so "i can't believe we were caught so off guard" and thus they truly weren't prepared for what they were getting into

Because they had never experience something on such a big scale, they didnt fully comprehend just how dangerous it truly was until Searchman was on the verge of defeat

I feel like this could be Laika showing some form of co-dependancy with searchman, not seeing a point in continuing the sight without him because to him, there really is no point to continue fighting without him. To Laika, Searchman comes first and then Sharo, and it's probably the same way for Searchman, Laika first and then Sharo. And when you really think about how young Laika is, if you really lean in to the "he's a child prodigy, he's so young and yet hes a military commander" it would make sense for Laika to be so dependent on Searchman because let's be honest do we think hed even have the TIME to have friends if he wanted them? Searchman is the only person in his life who really knows him

And for Searchman, he's a military navi so of course he will never have the time to make friends of his own. Sure, he'll always have his comrades, but he'll never get to know them as friends, just as allies. Laika is the only person to know him beyond just being a weapon

Anyways

Searchman still being alive was already enough of a miracle, they both knew that. And since we didnt get Laika's reaction of finding out he was still alive, I imagine him feeling an overwhelming crush of relief, thinking that they could get out of this. But he failed to take into account Searchman's pride and loyalty to doing the right thing. Laika's reaction wasn't because of the disobeying, but because he realized that he had just gotten Searchman back only to lose him again right away. Searchman, of course, knew this too.

He knows what he was about to put Laika through, but he just couldn't bring himself to retreat with so much on the line. It could be restricted to the net right now, but how long will such a powerful entity have that restriction and how much longer until it really affects Laika and potentially puts him in danger?

I think after it's all over, the threat is gone, it takes everything in the both of them to not just break down at how if just one thing went differently, they'd have never seen eachother again. It's not until where they get back to their room and Laika just breaks down, begging Searchman to never pull that stunt again, despite knowing Searchman couldn't promise that. Meanwhile Searchman has to sit and being unable to comfort Laika beyond words, which wasn't the best way to help, because at that point in time he was still completely restricted to the net. He couldn't pull Laika close, nor could he reassure him that everything was okay because he was still here, he could only exist and try to make his presence comforting as all Laika could do was clutch the PET

I fear I talked to much about Laika than Searchman but anyways. Searchman of course hates making Laika feel bad, no one likes making their companions upset of course. So it eats at him and in a way amps their codependency because Searchman never wants to leave Laika's side so Laika's comfort stays stable, so that he never has to put Laika in such a devastating mood ever again. Of course, it's not that easy and it continues creating a cycle of Laika terrified of the possibility of losing Searchman and Searchman staying as close by as possible, outside of missions, to keep Laika comfortable. They both worry for eachother out of pure love and affection, what they do isn't exactly all that bad, it just makes them insanely worried for eachother all the time. It's not the healthiest, really, but it's far from toxic. What matters to them is that the other is alive and well.

On the first day of pride month? That's pretty gay
