#scotch darning

And I was going to leave it with the big yellow blotch because I didn't really have the right colors in my thread box to match the fabric palette for embroidering......but then I was up way too late last night and decided that it would be fine if I just approximated them by using threads of two different colors.....

And I think it turned out pretty well!

Seems like my socks develop holes almost as fast as I can darn them now. It's hard to complain when they end up looking so neat after being mended. All the mends pictured are done using the Scotch Darning method which is still my favourite way to darn.

My favorite linen shirt has developed some holes and thin spots in the sleeves (my bad wearing it so much for things like working in the garden). So I tried a little Scotch darning.

they had some pretty big holes in em but I still wanted to wear them, because I really like the purple and the fact that they have toes which make them really convenient for me. I used a ladder stitch to patch up smaller holes, and used some scrap fabric and scotch darning to patch up the bigger ones!

I patched up the larger holes with scrap fabric first, and then did some repeated blanket stitches (I think) which is apparently used in scotch darning to secure the fabric in place. They're still pretty comfortable!
