Last week I was delighted to listen to a really wonderful @herbsocietyofamerica webinar featuring @susanbetzherbs speaking about her new book Herbal Houseplants! She recommended this book and several others written by the First Lady of Herbs, Adelma Grenier Simmons! I found a copy and it came yesterday… I am absolutely enchanted…it’s hard to know what to say about it, except that it’s literally the most informative and deliciously entertaining book about wreaths that I’ve ever read, and it was obviously written by one who was passionately in love with her subject. Tinsel has always been my most favorite thing to put on the Christmas tree. I still have such fond memories of being a little girl and buying it by the box at the little corner store called Hazels. Hazels had all of the best things, like penny candy, coke in bottles, Dutch chocolate shoes and oranges , candy ribbon and best of all , the flammable crinkly tinsel that you can’t even get anymore. To me, it was magic… the tree wasn’t finished until I’d thrown it everywhere. So you can imagine my joy this week when I came upon a story I’d never heard, about the Christmas Spiders. Immediately I set out to find some for me tree but alas, there were none. Such a wonderful night, honoring the new moon with my sweet soul sisters in the @thehausofphoenix , making dreams come true through movement, meditation and ritual. Sometimes the best soup is a happy accident. This is the pumpkin, Madeira and almond butter soup that I made for Thanksgiving . I added leftover butternut squash vegan mac and cheese and some pretty yummy garlic and black pepper potatoes and turned it into a chowder. 🍜Topped with grated Asiago cheese and fresh herbs from the garden, it was pretty heartwarming on this cold and snowy Cleveland day. ❄️ Don’t be afraid to experiment with flavor…some of my happiest culinary moments have been created this way. I’ve got some more in the freezer and next time I’m going to add some crab or lobster meat if I can find it because shellfish and squash are true soulmates.
