W.Va. Schools Closed Indefinitely
Governor Jim Justice has closed schools until it is "safe". W.Va. is one of few states that has not had a positive case of Coronavirus. Saying "It has to be here," Governor Justice spoke about being proactive to stem the tide of the virus. Part of the decision was based on the fact that W.Va. has an elderly population as well as many of W.Va. teachers are also in that age range that is most at risk. On Thursday, the Governor issued an out-of-state travel ban for state employees conducting state business. State government offices are also to avoid holding large gatherings and meetings to prevent the spread of the virus known as COVID-19. Read the full article

So cold!
Here in Michigan it is so cold schools including the four colleges in town have been closed since Monday! Not a single day of class all week. I've enjoyed the time home with my kids but I worry about how we are going to cover all our topics in classes before the end of semester.
Empty schools, empty promises
In 2013, Mayor Rahm Emanuel ignited a firestorm by ordering the mass closing of 50 public schools, the most at one time in any school district in the nation. These closings were concentrated mostly in poor black neighborhoods already struggling with a legacy of disinvestment and segregation. Four years later, most of these schools remain vacant.
