Okay ow.
Like seriously.
I just finished watching Schitts Creek on Netflix and I (as an extremely stubborn person) have never swapped opinions on a show so significantly. Usually, once I have an initial impression on characters/a show, I DO NOT change my mind. Like, it is engrained on my psyche.
But when Schitts Creek introduced me to David, Alexis, Johnny and Moira, I thought they were the most annoying, self-centred, unwatchable characters that I would ever meet.
And then I kept watching.
And watching.
And watching more.
And the characters slowly developed into people that I felt like I knew. Not just the Rose family, but Twyla, and the Schitts, and Ronnie, and Bob and Stevie and Patrick and Ted. They became this family that I genuinely cared about.
And it was so clear how much the directors cared about the show and how much all the actors really loved their characters. And that just drew me in and in and in until I felt so at home with the show and everything that it represented to me.
So I guess this is a just a random, shameful, apologetic post to inform everyone that they should definitely watch Schitt's Creek because you will not regret it. Muscle through your initial distaste with the characters' actions and you will gain something so lovely in their redemption arcs that are written so well that you don't even see it happening, because the characters get to keep their core beings intact by the end of the show.
Best Wishes, Warmest Regards. <3
