"Tommy, Iââ
[~put over La Jolla from YCGMA~
Wilbur: Phil, IâmâI...
Phil: How did you get yourself into this? You showed me you were gettingâyou were doing better, you were getting better, you were doing well...
Wilbur: IâmâIâm *trying*! It was going better, it was getting better. ...I said Iâd be good. And I was, I was good, for a while.Â
I donât know, man, I donât know if I can actuallyâif I... Iâm trying so hard, and nothing seems to be getting better, and I think there might just be something wrong with me, and IâI donât know how I can get people to forgive me, because they say they do and I just donât believe that they do...
Phil: Well, have you tried just saying sorry? Like, have you just... apologized, heartfelt?
Wilbur: Yeah, but no oneâs, like... I feel like no oneâs actually, just, forgiven me, I feel like everyone says that âcause theyâre scared of me and then it feels like Iâm trying to push back...
Phil: Listen. Sometimes, you fall so far, so low, that there isnât, or doesnât seem to be a way to be forgiven. Sometimes you canât expect forgiveness at all. You canât expect it to be your end goal. Your end goal should be to allow others to move on from the mistakes youâve made. You have to bring closure to the suffering youâve caused, Wil. Thatâs the most important thing right now.
Wilbur: But Iâm trying. I really am trying. I keep going to people, I just keep making worse, it feels like.
Phil: You have to give them space. If youâve offered all you can and it still isnât enough, you need to just let them go, Wil, you need to let them heal without you. I know itâs probably not what you want to hear, but you canât force people to change their minds.
Wilbur: No, youâre right. Youâre right. I need to... Okay. I understand, thank you. Uh...
Phil: Is there anybody, right now that youâre thinking of that youâve wronged in the past?
Wilbur: *opens the door to Tommy*
Tommy: WIlbur?
Wilbur: Tommy, Iâ ]
