theory in which the Sauoplits were betrayed by Odozeir, for their loyalty he had promised them an artificial sage that would protect them long term. they either gave flesh or several Sauoplits were mashed together, and he wound up using it too early to protect the ritual instead. it was grotesque and now its head and theyre horrified. so they abandon him, but Odozeir can naturally swing new crowds...
