Friendship is all Jim Kirk can expect from his First Officer, for a plethora of reasons. However much that might hurt, heâll take whatever he can get, so long as Spock is in his life. But just at the moment that it seems even friendship might be too much to ask for, the two of them are gifted with a temporary responsibility that neither ever expected. A responsibility far more personal than ship and crew, and one that forces them together just as it seems like they are falling apart. Still, the clock is ticking, and as time goes by, the thought of letting go becomes an impending reality that feels impossible to bear.
In the end, they are only theirs to borrow.
âDo you think anyoneâs guessed?â
Jim felt Spockâs lips curve into a smile as they brushed over his temple, his head shaking slowly.
âNot as far as I am aware. And given the rate at which personal information tends to be, ah, conveyed around the Enterprise, I think it is safe to say that we remain undiscovered.â
âYeah, theyâre all a bunch of gossips,â Jim grinned, stifling the ridiculous urge to start giggling. He felt a little like someone had sneaked something into his drink, but he guessed that some giddiness was understandable in their situation.
