When awareness returns, Hannah beams up at Naomi, whose many-faceted halo flashes as Naomi studies them in turn. Thrills zing through Hannah. Her attention must feel close to God's.
"Thank you for watching over me," Hannah says sweetly.
Naomi extends her vessel's hand to Hannah's forehead. Before her fingers touch Hannah's skin, their auras intermingle, sparking gold and silver. When Naomi pulls her hand away, her fingertips are red.
"You're welcome," Naomi says with all of the warmth of human mothers Hannah has observed. That warmth infuses Hannah's being, chasing away the lingering deadness they had only begun to notice.
