I have just recently started my reading journey of bell hooks' All About Love, yet the feminist analysis on how gender plays a role on our perception of love (especially for women) has already stood out to me.

“Men theorize about love, but women are more often love's practitioners. Most men feel that they receive love and therefore know what it feels like to be loved; women often feel we are in a constant state of yearning, wanting love but not receiving it.”

hooks delves more into the reasons behind this. It is complicated, as hegemonic masculinity does not support emotional men, and hooks mentions this, talking about how love is often not talked about by non-emotional "real men". Although women are the "emotional" ones on this gender binary, men still dominate in the field of love. According to hooks, fantastical romance novels and poems by men are the most revered, while women who speak of fantastical love are seen as writing it for "pure escape."
