Sandy Powell designed this incredible Elizabethan gown for the 1998 film 𝑺𝒉𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑳𝒐𝒗𝒆, where Judi Dench wore it as Queen Elizabeth I.   The costume went on to be used again in the 2005 film 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅, where Alexandra W. This beautiful blue gown appeared in the 2020 𝑫𝒐𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓 𝑾𝒉𝒐 episode 𝑺𝒑𝒚𝒇𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝟐, where it was worn by Sylvie Briggs as Ada Lovelace.   But that’s not where this piece originated. It was actually designed by Sandy Powell for Genevieve O’Reilly as Lady Flora Hastings in the 2009 film 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈 𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂.   Have you seen this amazing costume somewhere else? The fairy godmother wings are finished! It took me a while because I was working on them on tiny bits of my free time for the past 3-4 months! They are made of 3 fabrics: Lace, iridescent organza and metallic mesh. The structure is made of silver wire and all Hand Embroidered with metallic silver thread. Once they were embroidered, I cut the wings and sealed the edges and then attached the two parts with nylon thread. Now I have to make the inserts on the bodice to put them in place!
