Birth of Princess Victoria of the United Kingdom
On this day in 1868, Princess Victoria of the United Kingdom was born at Marlborough House in London. She was the second daughter of the then Prince and Princess of Wales—later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra—and a granddaughter of Queen Victoria. Her birth added another member to the expanding British royal family during a period of strong imperial influence and public fascination with the monarchy.
Though she lived a largely private life compared to many royals, Princess Victoria remained close to her mother, Queen Alexandra, and never married, dedicating much of her life to royal duties and family service. She became known for her quiet personality and devotion to charitable causes, spending her later years at Coppins in Buckinghamshire until her death in 1935.
